Question TII 87-88 or TII 89-91

I’ve been researching and reading attempting to find the difference between the TII 87-88 and the TII 89-91. Which one do you guys think is better? Which one is easy to work with (find parts, etc.)?

Thank you,

Luism12lm

S4 (87-88), has lower compression rotors than the S5 89-90.

It depends for what the goal is, no real answer to that question. It's personal preference/what your looking for in a motor.

I want the car to look good. I will like to have A/C, power steering, all the good stuff, but at the same time I want the car to respond when I need it. Maybe I can get that just by porting and bridging the original engine, but I don’t know, I am kind of new at this. That is why I’m always reading and looking at this web site. I don’t know if you guys are the same way, but me, I’m getting addicted to this site.

Oh if your looking at a overall FC, goto the 2nd gen section you may get better advice. Honestly like I said one isn't head over heels better than the other, just find out whats available locally and go from there.

From what I hear, the S5 has the lighter rotors.

Yes, as far as engine performance is concerned the S5 is the clear choice, more power, a more "modern" fuel injection system etc. However the S4 is the eaiser (not by much however) swap to put in a first gen, but then thats not what it seems like this guy is asking, I think dan is right in saying hes in the wrong forum

If you are even considering a bridgeport, makes no difference because you will be tossing the sensors, harness, ecu, turbo, intercooler and exhaust mani, along with the entire exhaust system.

What are your hp goals and driveability needs? That is the 1st question that needs to be answered, the 2nd is budget, the 3rd is abilities.

Both are fast, powerful and buildable. And both have quirks and weak points. If your coming from an N/A 12A or even a 13B 4-port,either TII engine is gonna blow you away with its performance, even if bone stock.Ive run both in my car,and I decided on the S5 in the end, just because its a little more refined and has a real diagnostic system.
They are about the same system, from a broad point of view. The S5 has a faster ECU,different turbo hotside,AFM,TPS and OMP.....but they are very similar. Its kinda like SA's and FB's......they are the same, but different.
