Are there moderators here?

Lately this forum has taken a deep fall down. This is a technical forum dedicated to SA/FB Rx-7's and it doesn't seem so lately. We had that hydrolic FB post 5 different threads. Where are the mods? They should be deleting that type of crap, or at least closing them. Who's with me?

I should be a mod... I'm here every day. lol

If you're unhappy with the content of a post the quickest way to get action is to click on the exclamation mark to "report a bad post".

Friggin narc!

I've hinted at the Honda-Punk *** types that seem to be taking over, but waddaya gonna do? There's too many of them to clean up.
That long thread about that ugly car was a perfect example of what I mean. All the old-school types and rotor-geeks pretty much would say it wasn't their taste, but it was done real well, and all the punks couldn't even appreciate the effort that went into it.

When I want to discuss anything serious, I just go to another forum anymore.

Perhaps this was an unforseen destiny for the FB crowd when the Rx-8 came out- Every punk-*** Honda-kid who couldn't afford one would get a rotary that they could afford...the FB.

Honestly, being 19, two years ago when I bought my FB for $300, it was actually a toss up. I wanted a car that was very memorable from the year in which I was born, so it was either going to be an 7 or a Z car. The 7 was the cheaper buy for me, and it's proven to be a lot of fun for me to work on. I'd prefer the FB over most any car, excluding the obvious cars. I could probably agree with you on how the name is what attracts the Honda-esque crowd into buying something they can afford, because the RX8 or FD aren't as buyable at their age as a Civic is.

I post requests for help, and I kind of skip reading all those "Wut wheel shud I get" posts.

Rx7Carl is our mod, There are some others but he is the main one. He does a great job. If you dont like something PM him and discuss it.

All forums have a life cycle, After about 3 years you have read and seen almost every question and answer possible on a car, gun, boat, whatever. the only forums that stay real fresh are the political/current events cause they always get new stuff to talk about.

I'm not on here as much anymore due to limited access at work. I cant spend all my free time on here and I think the other mods have been busy, but viperinicus42 has been cleaning up the threads quite nicely. The spamming seems to come in waves. Please yes report anything inappropriate. As far as content, cant do anything about that. Even the fugly FB on ebay can de discussed.

Hey...I do not think that is is the mods fault that the forum is so polluted with garbage. Rather the people that are in it re-posting the same threads. Personally I do not feel like it is a huge deal. Granted sometimes it is a pain but it could be way worse. Mods you got my thumbs up. Remeber that they probably do not get paid for this...rather it is a labor of love.

Don't get me wrong I do not think that Hyper would not make a good mod, actually, I can't pass judgement since I have never met him. But I firmly believe that when there in an overwhelming amount of mods it turns more into chaos rather than organized sorting, deleting and all other tasks a mod performs. Hey if you want it bad enough go fo it...who knows what will happen.

I have been hanging around the 3rd gen forum lately and you want to talk about stupid threads go there. There are so many moved threads it is unbelievable. In no way am I attacking the 3rd gen guys it is just way worse than the FB/SA section.

Finally as to a comment to the 16yr old owners. I think that the huge erruption was when F&F came out and the 3rd gen was the cool car in the opening scene. Then every one and their mother wanted to get that car. When they saw the price the resorted to the FB/FC. As long as we don't get those drifter (sorry to the real drifters) punk kids that want to put 18" rims, 15" subs and a 40' honda wing I am ok with any age. I remeber when I was a little kid and my father had a brand new 80 Rx-7...I thought to my self when I grow up I am going to have one of those.

Sorry to rant...just my 2 cents!

How does the stock rims, two 12" Infinity's, and the original wrap around spoiler sound? Then again, I'm not 16, and understand that the 40' wing won't do much until after like 130mph.

Someone needs to find a totaled Dodge Charger Daytona and get the **** of a wing adapted the the 7. I want to see that. Lol.

why complain about stupid posts? just don't read them. or alert the mods and let them do their job. it's kindof ironic how the thread about "non-technical" threads is one itself. atleast bling rims have something quasi-technical to do with a car

Yeh, posts are like TV, just change the channel. And censorship is dangerous, some of my best, most insightful posts have been deleted by the mod gods because they just didn't get my point.

In my experience, those who ask to be a mod, seldom are chosen.

Also, I agree with "change channels" idea. I ignore topics that do not interest me.

Yeah, but 5 threads on that hombre's FB was 4 too many. I understand we shouldn't censor content, but we don't have to tolerate people who can't be bothered to read the top ten threads open to see if maybe what they're looking to talk about is there already.

in the past few months its gotton kinda bad all over the forum. it seems like alot new people are coming in and some of the people that have only been here a year or so are acting up more.if you think its bad in this section go over to the lounge. it getting out of hand there, the mods are cracking down only to have people get even worse.i imagine its going to grow to be somewhat like honda-tech here before long. in saying that i mean that every repost or stupid question gets hammered by the regulars. if its really bad the mods dock points, remove avatars, ban, ect. it works out pretty good actually, cut out alot of the b.s.

[edit]
how does one become a mod anyways?

This thread belongs in the lounge, this is supposed to be a technical forum! Mods, please move or delete....

To tell the truth though, I have no complaints just so long as I don't have to see any more of that white supremecist ****! Maybe we just need to educate some of these "dumb punks" that are showing up. We were all young and stupid at one point, and we outgrew it eventually (well, except maybe Sterling)...

all the sarcasim is my piont exactly. All I was saying was that when something is posted 3 times on the same page it should ge deleated. I personally do not consider age an issue. When I was 16 I tought a 2 day rotary portion of autoshop in high school. I never turned anything in and still got a 4 in the class. I knew my stuff then and thereare some youngins out there who know. Just most do not.

p.s. I cant spell...

The difference Ken is that we were raised with some respect. Everyone is naive about life during their teens and twenties. But these punk-*** little wannabes that can't add anything more than ripping on someone else's efforts and hard work, it's just uncalled for and unacceptable.
Rx-7 owners throwing insults and ridiculing the end result of hard work put into an Rx-7?
On a ******* Rx-7 website?!

When our own long time resident Glazedham42 finally completed his long, long restoration he recieved 44 responces and 932 views.
Someone posts pictures of a NON-MEMBERS CAR, for the purposes of ridicule, and that thread yields 60 responses and 1,235 views.

There's "THE RULES", and then there's a certain unwritten forum etiquette, which we used to pride ourselves here in the FB section on having- that thing that separated us from the rest of the forum. We didn't cut on people or their cars for no reason, and when someone did, it was so rare that they always looked like an *******. It used to be anyone posted stupid ****, someone would respond by telling them to go to the lounge.
If someone announced that their project was done, we all applauded their efforts because at the very least, we knew another Rx-7 was saved.

It doesn't have to be all technical, but if you don't have something positive to add, then STFU. If you are posting your opinion, you don't need to rip the owner a new ******* just because you don't like his car. Not liking something is not a call for ridicule (Yes, kiddies, even if everyone else is doing it. )

If this is a "free" forum, and it's perfectly fine for people like that to give such opinions and treat other Rx-7 owners like that then it is also perfectly fine for me to do the same to those people.

This is exactly why I disappear from here for long clips at a time. Too much caffeine. It makes me so hyper I wanna reach through the screen and choke the **** outta someone.

Sterling, You are so correct. Just because I personally do not like drift wings (as someone else called them) and a lot of other stuff added to a first gen, I don't make fun of those who do. The only time I post any opinion based comments, are when they are asked for.
Ok, so the person who is footing the bill for their car, and all the mods, likes something. It's not my car, and even if I would not to be caught anywhere near it, I am not going to start ripping on their ride. If they ask for my opinion, I will tell them politely what my opinion is.
It seems common sense and courtosity have been replaced by "Know it all" ego's. This is true in many areas, not just here.

I'm personally against censorship. I think it should be within someone's rights to express their opinions. But I also think everyone needs to keep each other "curtious", just like you said.
Just about anything can be said in a respectful manor.

The car thread shouldn't have been deleted. That would be unfair. But it shouldv'e been locked, with the reason given that people were acting in a manor unbecoming of the FB forum.
Our behavoir defines us.

Hell this forum even gives us two places to be ********! (The lounge & DoO.)

I think part of the problem is that, for all its wonders, the 1st gen rx7s are a finite piece of machinery that can have only so many problems. This forum is incredibly helpful for the new FB owner and I have gotten more than my share of good advice from Sterling, Carl and lots of other helpful and knowledgeable forum members.

But after you own and work on one or two or three FBs for a few years, you really do know everything about them and you start sounding like one of those condescending know-it-alls that has all the answers to all the questions (even if you aren't and you are taking care not to sound that way).

But you also still want to to talk about your car and even have a question or two once in awhile, so this forum still has value and you check it once in awhile to find an interesting post. And sometimes, people actually say stuff that is informative, funny or just so damn stupid it becomes interesting in its stupidity.

So what's this got to do with that god-awful california paint job, Sterling's lastest rant and this post, which started out calling for censorship? There aren't many public forums left, in the US at least, where you can feel free to express your opinions (respectfully, of course) and not be censored in one way or another. In the past, this forum has had its own problems with censorship, but thankfully, Carl, Rob and the others seem to be too busy these days to spend much time sorting through our conversations and looking for trash (or what some folks are calling trash, anyway).

So those of you who want to start a turbo forum or a body kit forum or an aftermarket wheels forum or you're a friggin idiot forum, feel free. But please, stop telling us first gen rx7 owners what is acceptable for discussion on this forum. Stop telling us what kind of people we should be, how our cars should look and be modified, how to love and talk about our 7s. We appreciate your opinions and photos, but save the lectures and quit the efforts to make the forum something it isn't. We are having way to much fun.

Ray
