Thumbs up Thanks to you, newbie fixes exerything!

OK, so here's the deal. I've been lurking, searching, and learning for a few months 'cause my son bought a couple of 1983 RX-7's...one to drive (restore) and one for parts. I have more time than he has so I've been the one doing most of the work (don't tell him I said that). Anyhoo, I just wanted to say thanks to all of you who have (unknowingly) helped us in our quest. I fixed all the interior lights (map, dome, glovebox, and hatch) thanks to tips from LongDuck and others. We recovered the doors thanks to tips from $100T2. I replaced the carpet and repainted the interior trim. We ordered a "Sterling" carb from Rx7carl and are ordering a full Racing Beat exhaust system. Clutch kit is next and new seat upholstery.

Thanks again and we'll be back in touch when we remove the "rats nest". (That IS next...right?)

Happy Superbowl,

DublyDurty

if you look in the group buy section, you will find a link for a guy that sells leather seat covers & will do them isn custom color schemes. They look really nice & seem simple to install.

"psh you aint hip"...When removing the rats nest, any "undocumented" problems you ran across?

"Dr_Jeff"...Thanks. I looked in the 'group buy' section but the last post I saw for seat covers was way back in Sep 05. What do you think about these?: RB

Good job DD, and I see you did get off the couch. These cars are great fun to work on. I've been working on an SE for my son as well. I wish you continued success.

Thanks cpa7man. Heh heh, yeah, sometimes I do get off the couch.

Thanks Dr_Jeff for the link. The reason I didn't see a recent post when I looked the first time is...well...I...somehow missed the great big "LAST PAGE" link.

More info

After a couple of PM's about exactly HOW I fixed the interior lights (map, dome, glovebox, and hatch) I realized I should have been more specific. I removed the dome light assembly. It contained two springy clips that hold the dome bulb. One of those springy clips (the left one) was (no longer) riveted to the assembly. I screwed that clip (with a tiny screw) back into the assembly and soldered the screw in place from the back. The glovebox had a dirty/rusted bullet connector and I sanded it clean. The hatch had a visibly perfect bulb but when I removed it, one end cap of the bulb fell off. I replaced the bulb. The dome light bulb is larger than the hatch bulb. For the dome I used a Sylvania DE3175 and the hatch a Sylvania DE3022. A possibly useful tip I learned for testing (while sitting on the couch) bulbs and interior light assemblies is to use a small, square 9 volt battery from what we used to call a "transistor radio"). Yes, wackyracer, I'm an "old fart" too. That way you know everything works before reinstallation.
