$1561.00

This year here in Japan

every year
road tax 65,000 yen ($620.00)
Weight Tax 19,000 yen ($180.00)
annual inspection 80,000 ($761.00)

total less insurance $1561.00

now I could get it cheaper if I registered it in "Y" plates, but since I have both licenses (base and JN, and a green card) I prefer the kanji plates (don't have to deal with the base police)

new for this year
recylcing tax ????? (haven't paid it yet) its a new one time deal supposedly

People who live in confiscatory socialist states where they tax you on just about everything.

Ohio does have a tax... the price of your title is the sales tax on the claimed purchase price of your vehicle. One time only.

Annual registration, if looked at as a useage tax and not a fee, is generally only about $50. Does not matter what the value of the car is.

Ohio raised the state sales tax by 1% as a temporary measure a little while back.

Now - here's the kicker - they recently reverted to the old tax structure. That's right, they kept true to their word that it was just a temporary tax.

Here in Oregon we don't have a tax, just $35 bi-annual registeration fee.

In Kentucky, you pay 6% per year on the stated value, which depreciates somehow year to year. I think mine was $25 this year.. maybe 15, cant remember.

In Japan for the "white plate", it's expensive yeah.. "shaken" the inspection kenn_chan is talking about is veeeery costly and modification prohibitive. One guy I know in Misawa had his car inspected and they yelled at him saying stuff like "you're polluting Japan's air!". He had to put all his stuff back stock, re-inspect, then put all his mods back on. Pain..
I thought it was every two years, though..
Actually, owning a car period in Japan is pricey. Gas, tolls, inspection fees, and taxes are all designed to make people not want to drive, I think. The cars themselves are cheap, however..

Jayroc,

It is every two years now (though it didn't use to be) I was just talking about this year, deduct the shaken and that will be next years price lol

honestly I am thinking about going Y plates though (for the uninformed "Y" plates are what military, and DOD contractors get unless they have a green card, and JN license like me) they are much cheaper thatn normal Kanji plates, like maybe only 300 a year for road tax and weight tax combined, and then another 300 for shaken every other year, but then you have to deal with some of the stupid policies that the base has

I have been real tempted to move to Ohio a few times. But it is so Cold and 8 hours drive to visit my Parents.

In Ga we have a Yearly Ad-Volurm Tax on cars and houses.

IN NC we have a Yearly Ad-Volurm Tax and when you change the title on a car they charge you a Road Tax that is based on what they say the value of the car is.

I paid $2.32 for this year's taxes. I'm not sure why I have to pay...it's assessed at $100. I wish I was back in NY. I could buy annual inspection for $15 and 2 year registration for $70. That's it. Damn quaker-run tax hungry politicians.

It's screwed up here. They lowered the tax charge by $0.07 per $1,000 on real estate. Then everyone's appraisals on their houses skyrocketed. Thus, raising the tax bill for the year. I wish they'd charge higher taxes for purchases, and do away with this yearly tax crap. They're punishing people for succeeding, and being able to afford things.

Here in GA they have started Locking your taxes from when you buy the place. So even thought the value goes up. Your deduction for Homesteed goes up also. Only changes once you sale the place.

My 85 GSL the Turd was from Ohio, which is probably why it had rust problems. So if Ohio doesn't have taxes, who buys all that salt? Also, isn't Ohio the state that messed up the last election and voted for Bush? It's bad enough being wrong, but real bad being wrong when it matters. Incidently, I don't mind paying taxes because it is nice to have roads, schools and a military, kind of feels like a civilization, you know?
