Switched Power

I am looking for the easiest way to hook power up to only turn on with the ignition on. I recently hooked up a wideband controller and ran the power from a second gen fuse box I swapped in where the fuseable links used to be. I was under the impression this was switched but to no avail it is not.

How can I hook it up so it only comes on with the ignition on without completely re-running wires? Or if I have to re-run wires where do I hook it into? I am completely ignorant when it comes to finding ignition on only power.

Thanks

You could use the power to the cig lighter to toggle a relay for your switched power, thus keeping your existing fused wire and not placing load on any existing circuit.

anywhere to get it from under the hood? How about from the wiring harness? When I took out the rats nest I clipped all the unused wires but left just enough at the harness to be able to splice a wire back on.

Get it off the positive of the ignition coil. Thats always a switched 12v source. I use it to trigger my relays for the electric fans.

since i don't even use mine and it probably don't work anyway, and i could be wrong concerning these cars but all cig lighters have +12v all the time. and i agree with tim, just get it from the + side of one of the coils.

Sarg is correct, of course. The lighter is switched. As already mentioned, the Black/white stripe wire connected to the positive terminal on each coil is the easiest connection point under the hood.

Thanks 74RX4. Most Japanese cars have the lighter socket as switched 12VDC whereas US made cars use constant 12VDC.
