Flush oil cooler

I have a front mount oil cooler and since i am doing a rebuild im going to try out synthetic oil. I was wondering the best way to remove all the old oil just sitting in my oil cooler. can I flush it with water then blow it out with air. or would it be best to just run the new oil im putting in through it?

flushing it isn't really necessary.

Flush it with boiling hot water. The thermostat in the OIL COOLER opens at 145*F. So your water needs to be hotter than that. Otherwise you're just cleanning the end tank where the fittings are and nothing goes into the channels. I'll do three pots of boiling water. The first one I'll add Simple Green to clean out the cooler. Next 2 are just water and clears everything out.

If you can find a shop that does ultrasonic cleaning, it's worth it. Got mine done for $60.00 recently with a pressure test.

How do you drain the water out after flushing?

A local radiator shop should be able to take care of that. I had mine flushed, checked for metal particles and pressure tested for $20.

It'll drain out, you may have to shake and rock it back & forth. Use compressed air or the gf's hair dryer.

Radiator shops will throw it in the hot tank which is all fine and dandy, but I'd be surprised if they have an ultrasonic cleaner in the shop.
