Supercharge Your Car For $300?!?
Sterling,
so you think that you CAN mount the m-90 in between the manifold and carb? Heck, I work at a fab shop, I can easily fab some plates to make the pieces fit together. Now, with all the bypass vavle and blowoff valve junk, would you still need all that?
This (could) be a very inexpensive, easy installation producing some SERIOUS power here........

ooooh melikes.
I'll be quite interested to hear your results when it's up and running.... And I'm looking forward to a supercharged Sterling setup as well....
I searched on eBay and there appears to be a typical M90 and a 'longneck'..... Is the seller just confused or is there a particular one that you're using?

Yes, we'll be offering boost prepped Sterling Carbs soon.
Search in this section under "M-90", and "M-62". You'll find where I entertained the very same idea using the Eaton as a cheap alternative to the -back then, hard to find- 7" Camden.
I was planning at first to simply box the carb, but it'll be less work to prep the carb and cap it.

I wonder if it's worth using an aftercooler.

I've been thinking of what to do with my 85 GSL-SE, thought about a tII swap or a atkins supercharger setup. However I do believe that I'll be putting together a M90 Kit this summer.

BTW, if anyone else was as confused as me about superchargers, you should check out this site. Has some pretty interesting TECH articles.

"While the supercharger is generally considered to be a better method of forced induction for most street and race vehicles, the turbo will always have its place in a more specialized market."
The race comment is not true. Find me any race organization that allows both superchargers and turbochargers and high buck competitors that have R & D capability and you will never see a supercharger. In the FAQ, they admit that turbos can develop much greater power, and what's most important for racing? About the only form of racing I can think of that uses superchargers is top fuel drag racing and that's because they don't allow turbos.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a turbo maniac. Superchargers do have their advantages -- witness the number of OEMs that use them. But the disinformation spread by manufacturers and salesmen is amazing.
Look at it like this:
Eaton Supercharger (Roots style):
- Outstanding throttle response (little or no lag with excellent low RPM torque)
- Medium thermal efficiency (heats up the intake charge)
- Medium power potential (can't efficiently develop high boost)
- Excellent durability
Turbocharger
- Good to poor throttle response (depending on a host of variables, with poor to good low RPM torque)
- Excellent thermal efficiency (doesn't heat the intake charge as much as the above)
- Outstanding power potential (can develop very high boost)
- Excellent durability (when system is properly designed)
So you see it's a question of throttle response (supercharger) vs. outright power (turbo).
everyone will always have a their own choice when it comes to turbos vs superchargers, however to anyone trying to decide on which just remember to decide on what you want to acomplish out of your car.
I will going with a supercharger setup for autocrossing because of no turbo lag. True a turbo setup more than likely would produce more house power for the same amount of money but for what I'm using my car for it a turbo wouldn't cut it. I need to be able to get power quickly. By the time I would get to a turn and need to slow down, a turbo would just begin spooling.

I have yet to do my own.
When I do, I will be seriously concidering duplicating all of the brackets for a kit if it's cost effective.
Customer buys the Eaton M-90 and an intercooler.
---The goal is to make it the least expensive, best performing supercharger available for the rx-7. (Just like what we are shooting for with the Sterling Carb).
My only competition in that regard is expensive and old school.
Atkins really should try to configure a blow-thru setup to use an IC with theirs, but it's so expensive as it is.

in fact I didn't think the M90 ran with an intercooler anyways. My friend didn't have one on his T-bird maybe I just over looked it....But I thought intercoolers were for turgays...I mean turbos
