Suggestions on purchasing a SA

Hello fellas

i was looking at this rx7 i found on craigslist http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/car/177277380.html

what do you guys think??
do you think the price is fair?

So long as the engine was built by a reputable builder and the owner has all his reciepts, I'd think that his price was in the ballpark. You should definately go through it with a fine toothed comb before plunking down any money though.

That is a roll bar with door bars, not a cage, and it needs padding. Ad says it's an 80, why does it look like an FB?

For me to spend that kind of money, it would need to mint inside and out and mechanically perfect, including brakes and suspension, which there is no mention of mods there. If there is the slightest doubt about the engine 12-1500, if the rest is good.

If that's the kind of car you would like to build, it would cost you a lot more than $3000. Of course, you can't tell to much from the pictures as far as the body and interior. If you can be sure the guy who built it really knows what he's doing and not just some kid adding stuff from a list of 'cool parts', make him an offer. The market for cars like that is pretty small. A lot of people like them, but don't actually buy cars with roll cages and supersonic exhaust.

Basically, thats not a 1980. It just seems to me that you would be better off buying an SA off somone who knew what they owned. I would be willing to bet money you could find a much nicer 1st gen in the for sale section of this website for that price-range than that, but I could be mistaken. Good luck, and whereever you find one - look it over good like Moses said, otherwise you may end up with more problems than you had before you bought the car.

Heh... I didn't even click the link.

Definately stay away from a seller that either doesn't know that his car isn't an 80 or has swapped an 80 VIN onto a newer car for nefarious reasons.

edit: That's one nice-looking SA there foozberries.

They could have swaped an FB front onto the car, But the side trim is FB also.

Yep. He also says that the rear came out of an '87 GSL-SE. Perhaps these are typos, but it appears that he does not really know about this car. I would keep looking or get him to bring down the price.

Its not clsoe but it would make the drive back to Cali no problem. I've personally seen this car and dealt with the owner and its very well setup for autox already but still can be a street car, DD no problem.
