Suggestion: make titles more explicit

I have noticed that in some cases the thread title does not really convey useful information. For example, titles such as "Please help" or "Newbie question" do not let browsers know what is being requested. A title such as "Question on (component X)" would probably elicit a better response for the questioner and allow casual browsers to more easily focus on topics of interest.

Just a thought.

I totally agree - often times when browsing through, if I see a question I happen to know something about, I'll answer. But, I won't always click on every "need help" post out there. Thing is, most people who post such questions won't be reading this. It's the same with searching the forum, many n00bs don't do it even though it's stickied everywhere. Good idea though!

jeremy,

Nothing to explain except what is in the post. Just thought it would be a potential help to people browsing the forum. Perhaps I am not understanding your question.

Is this mentioned in that topic posted: Attn newbes? If the newbes follow the advice, they should be aware of this. But anyway, I never do those type of thread topics. It does tend to make you wonder what its about when you see a informationless thread and click and find a guy that says, "I have a slow car, how do I make it fast cheaply". First thing, its not cheap to make fast!!!! Second, I will not answer when I find a topic like that now that this subject has been brought up.

i fully agree that the thread title should be more precise. There is good info on some of the 'please help' threads which is lost in a search. It seems to be more of a problem on the Gen 1 forum.

I am a newbie. There is something I don't know. I don't know what it is I don't know, so I can't ask you what it is. You know what I need to know. But, you do not know that I don't know what it is I don't know. Thus, you will have to tell me everything.

I think this is a good idea as well. I have made the appropriate addition to the new member sticky to reflect this.
