STUPID question on front disc etc

Heres a stupid question Pardon me if its really stupid..

But if one needs a 114.3X4 lug pattern or something more available for nice wheels. Why doesnt someone make new brake rotors, with the proper front pattern?

Or why couldnt someone just weld up the old holes, and then re drill and tap a better more acceptable lug pattern?

Im sure there would be weaknesses with the fill & drill idea, but I'm sure someone could come up with a different rotor to work. It would probably be pretty expensive though....

What exactly is the difference between the SE and the regualr 12A. Is it the spindle length/size/shape?

the gsl-se spindle is longer, but it uses the same bearings as the rest of the 84-85 cars. a friend of mine put turbo 2 brakes, on an rx2 or 3 (on 1st gen strut housings), you have to make some kind of sleeve to go over the spindle.

So what happens if you use a SE rotor on a 12A then?

I need something here SOON!

You'd have to have the SE caliper and bracket too, the rotor itself is bigger.

Not only are the -SE rotors larger but they also have 15mm more offset. Likewise the rear axles are 15mm longer. The rotors will fit on any '84-85 spindle and the axles will work in any '84-85 DISC rear housing, though.

Ok so it is possible to put a -SE rotor, caliper and caliper attaching bracket on the front of any 85 12A?

The rear Im not worried about, lets just say it will probally be a different rear end from another car.. Possibly with M/T's on the back

Talk to a friend that builds tube chassis' for cars and he was trying to talk me into some nasty stuff..

BTW: My friend with the new TA (LS1) was there with me and Derrick (chassis dude) told he that rotaries arent to be messed with I've been telling him that he wouldnt listen to me, maybe he'll listen to seeing my tailights at WOT

@MarkVIII Not quite yet, but when it runs Ill have someone host a nice MPEG

the spindle is longer on the se, we had one years ago that had a 12a rotor on a gsl-se spindle and with the nut all the way in it was still totally loose. it sounds like you need to find gsl-se front struts, complete

Anyone have SE front stuff I need?

Do I have to change the X member? Does the suspension arms bolt into the 12A x-member the same?

Last month I asked about the difference in the front strut towers and was told the only difference is the location of the spring perch. We haven't completed the swap yet because of axle problems. Do we have to completely swap out the 12a strut tower to put 13b brakes on the car??
