so, um, I suppose trying to extend my exhaust ports by just dropping off the header would be universally stupid, right?
As in, take off the header and goto work on the port...
As it stands there's an emission legal intake & exhaust extended-port aka "streetport"

yes.
port plates would be a neat idea though. take away all the dead space at the top of the port. reduce turbulence, increase flow, decrease volume = much much much higher efficiency.

That is sooo funny, that sounds like you want to port a engine that is together.

if you have room for a magnet and want to chance not getting all the shavings i guess you could try.
Good luck trying to correctly conture the inner rotor housing surface of the exhuast port from the outside with a dye grinder. Oh yeah, a magnet won't do any good with aluminum of the exhuast port.
Maybe if you have a really strong vacuume cleaner.... I would never try to port it when its together. Also, from what I understand the intake ports are the ones that are more restricting anyway.
No, it's the exhaust that are more restrictive.
The cross section changes so radically and in such a short distance that it intorduces hellacious turbulence. Mazda probably did this on purpose, so it'd be all nice and turbulent in the exhaust port so injected air has a better chance of meeting unburned fuel.

Twenty people each could come up with an idea, and 1 will be really great.
People like you keep them from wanting to share their ideas.
When you laugh at someone for asking a question, you impede the progress of our collective brainstorming here.
We all lose out.
