Strut problems.... PICS....
Strut problems.... PICS....
Hello guys... Well- The car is painted and I am putting things back together... However I have run into a problem... As you can see... I have two different size strut tubes... The shorter one is the one that I need... Can someone give me a year that they are from... Does anyone have two? I am trying to go racing next weekend and my front suspension is hangin in pieces... I thought that I was going to be able to swap the backing plates and brake hardware over and be done...however I have bigger problems... HELP!

Looks like one is for a larger shock strut and coilover w/brake ducts and the other is stock.
Is it the diameter or just the length of the tube that is the issue? Either way you need to do some fab work, do you have the coilovers or what was on the race strut??

Frame was pulled. I do not know who built these struts.... the inserts I am using come off a 81 Toyota MR-2.....
The diameter is different.... however when I ordered struts for the MR-2 the "cap" fit right in... I wounder if the whole setup is from a MR-2

Is that the engine in your car??? Looks like an AMC I6 that goes in the Jeeps. Hardly a performance engine.
More on topic, chances are the one on the right is a custom job. Definately not a stock unit. The one on the left though is stock.

Looks like a gforceengineering type strut. http://www.gforceengineering.net/Shocks.htm
Edit: yours seems to have a brake duct housing built in. Remember the struts for 84-85 are different than 81-83 struts. I'm not sure what all the diferences are other than bearing size.

Jim and I used to cut the stock perch off the housing on a lathe and weld the new one on lower so you can use a threaded perch. You can easily cut down the long one you will just have to have threads cut in it. Some caps thread inside, some outside. Either one will work as long as it locates the insert. Any machine shop can cut them on a lathe for a few bucks. Just take the cap you want to use so they can get the thread pitch. The job takes about 5 minutes to set-up and do.
Ahh.... The AMC tweeks the minds of the almightly again.... No...Its not in the RX-7... It was supposed to be another picture!! lol!! OOOOPS!!
So... Is this as simple as cutting the tube to the desired length and making a spring purch.....
What about the cap? The one that I need to use is from the old set up... The stock RX-7 will not work...It will not thread....OR slide over the insert to locate it...
