stripped nikki carb??

i am really looking for a how to guide on stripping a factory nikki carb partly due to the fact that the original owner of the car pretty much screwed the original engine harness. i have seen pictures of the carb stripped but i am really just needing to know what i can remove and clean the carb up. i have the factory carb service manual i downloaded and i cant really determine the process of stripping it down and dont want to mess up the only carb i have i plan on a fresh rebuild for it before putting the new engine in my 7. i have an 85 gsl and i have, the carb and engine i beleive are from a 81 and i was hoping to utilize the factory rats nest but now i cant. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you will need to block off the acv on the side, and the weird tube thing on the back

awesome, just don't lose the two check ***** and spacers in the accelerator pump system! Let me know if you need any more help.

p.s. you may also want to open up the accel. pump nozzle and bolt while you have it out.

cobrasting- since you do all the rebuilds, what about the 4 screens found throughout the carb?

No real pro to removing them (so long as they are clean), con of removing them is that some crud can get by your fuel filter or originate in your lines. The screens stop said crud from getting into the carb, inside the tiny unreachable passages.

ditch it....you dont need that filterprovided that your tank is clean and there is a good filter before the pump. I never use them on old school NIkki and aftermarket carbs such as IDA, DCO/DCOE, dellorto and mikuni. Never had a problem

Typically, go one size bigger from stock, go for a hard run, and if you feel that the engine still wants to pull, then drill again until it stop from pulling and go one size smaller. You do this one primaries first then secondaries. Its not easy to tune a nikki as the jets are not easily accessible and you will need a good supply of jets unless the carb has been reemed to accept holley jets. also learn how to read your spark plugs.

You're fine ditching the screens as long as you have a good fuel filter before the carb.
