Streetporting my rebuilt engine
Ok. I'm thinking about getting my rebuilt engine rebuilt. I was just thinking a mild streetport though, because I got emissions. I heard that a streetport with all the emissions stuff, and cats will not really do anything power wise. Is this true? I really want to streeport it though. I was thinking maybe I could rebuild the engine(I know I can if I got the tools and video needed). I don't want to do the porting though, because i'm not experienced. This would also be my first time if I was going to rebuild it. Should I do the rebuild and just get exhaust. Thanks in advance guys/gals. God bless

You do realize that by upgrading your carb that you will have to be getting rid of your rat's nest, and thus removing that much of your emissions, right? The only carb that is going to support the emissions is the stock carb. Even getting it modified, if I recall correctly, will get rid of the rat's nest.
Ok dont really know what the laws are there but you should check and see if there is any way around emissions. Go ahead street port the motor get the racing beat cat elematior. Upgrade teh carb but leave all the emissions there so when it is time to have it checked out all you have to do is reinstall everything. I know many people that do this the good thing is a the cats should last forever. We was doing this with our Supra and Vette.

Another thing you have to take into consideration is that by porting the engine you will be producing more emissions as well.
Anyway, good luck with it all.
Here in Muncie there isn't testing or sound limit. I've ran around for the past year with racing beat header to dual straight pipes into random muffler. Never once got pulled over for sound, even asked cops if there were a sound ordinance, and there is none at all. I've also never had hassles with emissions testing either, registering either one of my FB's.

Some county in Indiana didnt have emissions. My county was 1 of them. We gotta stay under 115dbs or something like that. I got a ticket for noise when i was younger and in to the whole car audio thing. I hated paying the 45 ticket.
maybe i missed it in all this emissions talk, but you do realize that you're going to have a header, right? i didn't see one listed in your mods. a streetport, even a mild one, will REQUIRE supporting mods to run right.
anyway, if there is nothing wrong with your engine, why pull it apart just to port it?

Ya, i know i'll need a header. Maybe not. The guy that i talked to said he can just do a mild streetport jsut for the stock carb and parts. I'll nedd to get it rebuilt sooner or later because it has a dowel pin leak.
The #1 bolt on Hp gainer for 1st gen's is the replacement of the stock restrictive exhaust system. Which means a good Header system. Without that all other N/A mods are not going to be beneficial.
The emission laws for ALL states will be changing starting in 2008 and it is on the books for ALL states in ALL counties to have emission testing by 2010.
My recommendation for you (twinkletoes) being that this is your 1st car is to consider how much work do you want to do in-between Smog?. You can run a header system and carb after you get her smogged and then when it's time for testing, put it all back on. A mild streetport using a good catalytic converter with all emission equipment functioning and tune-up equipment in excellent running order should still pass. Go to a aggressive streetport and learn to say the word,"Gross Polluter",lol.

I do know that alot of States like Ca are trying to do away with the exemption years. But even with the exemption years the vehicles may not be subject to a tailpipe emission test but are still required to have all of the emission equipment that they came with on the vehicle.
I am going to do some more research on this because eventually it will affect us all and those who have been throwing away emission equipment may find themselves paying alot of money to purchase the equipment. I know of a speciality emission parts supply company that charges a premium for their parts. And they get away with it because what they are supplying is no longer available thru the dealer or in the aftermarket..

I know that i'm pretty new to driving, so I think i'll just get it rebuilt and then have the rest of the moey to have a guy I know install it(or I can, if its pretty simple, I love working and i'm good too). Then after that i'll get an exhaust system from RB maybe.
Why not go ahead ahead and get the exhaust and work on getting it to pass emissions with a decent cat. If you can get it to pass, then think about the streetport when it's time to rebuild.

Well, I already passed in March. I want the rebuilt motor sooner though just because. My bud passed emissions with exhaust though a little bit ago. Plus, i want to get the rebuilt engine first, installed and then see how much money I have left(if any) for other performance parts.
What do you guys think? Should I rebuild the engine or Have rotarywarehouse rebuild it. I'm thinking i'll just keep it stock port. Cause i'm newer to driving and it'll be fun enough with exhaust, and suspension anyways. Ya, I think thats what i'm going to do. How much would it basically cost around to get everything needed for me to rebuild the engine? I think it would be a fun project and not a problem with my ability.
