Stock port NA 12a's in the 13's? Anybody done it? Or will I be the first?

Stock port NA 12a's in the 13's? Anybody done it? Or will I be the first?

Well, I have a goal, to have the fastest stock port NA 12a 1st gen RX-7 around. All with spending basically as little money as physically possible. 13s are definately possible, as my car will be 1700lbs or less. Probobly a lot less by the time I'm done with it.

Engine power mods:
-Exhaust (will be custom header dumped right outside of engine bay for racing)
-All emissions crap removed
-AC removed
-Electric fan (yet to be added)
-Custom fiberglass intake manifold (yet to be completed)
-Racing with no hood and no intake

Weight reduction completed so far:

-Completely stripped interior, including dashboard, passenger seat, rear bins, sound system, and HVAC system.
-Every unnessesary engine bay part removed.
-Bumper supports removed
-Spare tire and jack removed
-Windshield wipers removed (one in car for street legality)
-For racing, custom header will be used with no exhaust after.
-No hood when racing

Weight reduction to be done:
-Custom $25 flush mount headlights
-Fiberglass or at least completely gutted passenger door, with no side beam, and drivers side door gutted with side beam lightened.
-Plexiglass side windows and rear hatch
-Plexiglass windshield(maybe)
-Sound deadening tar to be removed
-Complete wiring harness removed and replaced with only what is nessesary to drive legally, switches for each individual function, warning lights, and push button starter, the works.
-Unnessesary non-structural floorboard areas sawzalled out and replaced with sheet aluminum.



Any more ideas for cheap performance? No, I'm not spending more than $100 on anything, so dont recommend that I buy something pricey. This is my beater car, so stripping it is a who cares deal BTW, everything i stripped is for sale, i can take pictures if you want, PM me.


Who has the fastest stock port NA 12a right now? What do I have to beat?

stock nikki. Its gotten me to 14s already, and I hear its not a restriction until you go with porting.

i dont know if this is the best idea, but if its going to be a cheap drag car. you could make a small 1 gal gas tank out of alum. and remove the regular tank then cut out the bottem of the car where the gas tank was.

that would save weight.

It is a restriction before porting. The stock nikki maxes out at 140-145. With a modded nikki or a different carb you can make 150-155. It's not a major restriction, but it will make a little difference. But I'm not really sure if it is the carb or intake manifold that is the intake's restriction first.....

with the stock nikki? how is your suspension set up? what tires are u running...?

Well, I dont have numbers yet to prove it runs 14s, but I killed a Mercedes SLK230 a couple days ago and they run 15.2. I was reasonably close to my friend's RX-7 Turbo II which runs 13.7, I beat the SLK by about the same margin that the Turbo II beat me, so I'm guessing mid to high 14s.

Suspension is stock except the rear upper control arms are rusted off, lol. Shitty $20 tires with 1/16" tread

14s are NOT hard with a 1700lb car guys. Weight reduction is everything.

I don't doubt you but 1700 lbs. seems pretty light, doesn't it? Is that including you?

1700lbs is not including me, I weigh 185lbs or so. and no, dont tell me to lose weight, I'm 6'3" and skinny.

I will have the car weighed soon, then we can find out just how close i am.

havent made them yet there killer Might not do it until i wire up my custom wiring harness, then it will be easy to do the headlights, just have a switch for on, and a switch for the high beams
