Still struggling with timing

I must be the biggest retard...

OK, from the top. It's a TII block with Nikki carb and 2GCDFIS. It runs but it just don't sound right.

1.
Can I check timing at idle or do I need to be at 4000rpms? I've only checked at idle and always get some crazy position on the pulley to light up.

2.
Is there a multiplier for 2GCDFI setups?

3.
Is my use of HEI ignitors causing the "problem". I tried swapping the 2 wires at the dizzy and rpms increased by 500rpm or so. Sounded a little better. But I still don't know if my timing is correct.

I'm 99% sure my TDC is tight per Wackyracer's method and the spark plug hole method. I rotate the shaft, line up the pulley to the peg, and stab the dizzy with the rotor button facing L1.

Anyone in Orange County, So Cal available to take a look at my setup?

Thanks dudes

Start by making sure that your pulley is mounted in the correct position. Read this:

Since it's a TII, the pulley can only be mounted one way right? I don't remember forcing it on when I did a rebuild. And the marks did line up with wackys method. I'll check it again tonite.

Just an FYI, it is possible to have the dizzy wire hooked up wrong, I had that problem at first when I upgraded to msd/2nd gen coil. So I'd figure this out first...

Also, you did remove the igniter on the 2nd gen coil right?

Hey Owen,
I will be down at UCI carshow on Saturday so give me a call and I will come by before lunch. Besides, I have to stop by and see my cousins at Garbage Grove.
