Angry Stereo

How do you remove the stereo from the panel? It's preventing me from removing some interior trim

I've done all that, but the wires connected to the stereo are holding it in.
I don't think it's a stock stereo though. Did they come stock with Blaupunkt CD players? I don't find it likely. . . .
Re-reading your post, I'm sure of it My radio has no *****

Sorry about the crap *** picture. And, yes, the panel is UPSIDE DOWN, with the CD player still attached to the wires

Can you possibly trace the wires from behind? I would assume it's the speaker wires holding it back, so if you can find those and loosen them up, you should be able to pull it out some more.

That is an aftermarket radio. Search around it a little bit. There should be a main plug for all the wires. On my Blaupunkt unit it plugs into the rear of the unit. But not sure about yours.

There's a big lump of wires holding it back, but they're connected to the CD player INSIDE

Then the only way to do it is to cut the wires...

That's what I was thinking. Oh well, I ruined the CD player anyway, so, off the wires come!

If i'm not mistaken the wiring loom behind most modern automotive stereo components will terminate to pin connectors. I would not cut ANY wires on the back of the equipment. There is a connector buried in there somewhere (if a snap harness was used).

Well, it's behind a metal plate that doesn't want to come off

I guess it depends on who installed it and what kind of components you have. It's been a hella long time since I installed a stereo.. But- I remember that I used a snap connector which pretty much took care of everything. You run all your wires to one location (usually the passenger side floor well, insert the unstripped wires into the marked snap connection, close and 'snap' the box, then plug that puppy into the connection terminating from the back of the head unit (wire loom). But- all the stuff I had was pretty much plug'nplay. Apline head, power amp, Boston Accoustic speakers and a Bazooka sub. The stereo shop I bought it from provided the snap connector which was appropriate and it was a damn breeze.

That connection was buried behind the dash, only accesable if you were laying flat on the passenger side floor with your head under the dash.

Whoah, would this be a black box? Sort of looks like a ring box?

Could be any color, I guess. IIRC, mine was clear. About the size of a ring box, yeah. You know where to check? Crutchfield. They usually have some pretty good reference stuff on-line.
