Steering box (possible problem)?

I have a problem with my 84 rx7. When I turn to right, the car seems to runaway towards the ditch. I've change all the steering rods and idler arm parts. So, I'm thinking its the Steering box itself. Anybody had this problem before. The car has about 165 000 km on it. Thanks. I'm not driving the car until I get this fixed, seems to turn fine until you go past a certain degree, then it wants to jerk you to the ditch.

Sounds like you need a front end alignement...

Alignment time. Not enough caster will cause that effect. Turn the wheel some and it feels fine and after a certain point the wheel will turn more by it self.

Yes, that sounds like it. Caster, is that a term. Seems the wheel will turn more, without turning the steering wheel, after turning past a certain degree. How is this fixed?

Thanks

An alighment will fix this problem. I not sure that's it. It drives down the road good, and does'nt pull to the side. I still think its something to do with the steering box.

bad caster will not cause a pull. alignments are always a good thing. the only problem ive ever heard with the steering gear box was that it became loose. unless its been tampered with before...like my car...i cant even get the 40mm nut off of it

Take it to an alignment shop, something is out/worn. There steering gears are a steady rate of change and the rate of change, doesn't change.

You stated that you have replaced the tie rods and idler arm bushings. Was this problem there before the change and did you have a alignment performed after the installation of the tie rods?

Did this problem come on all of a sudden?

2nd the ball joint. if it is bad it might be trying to unseat after anuff pull is put on it. you did say when turning right ,and ditch on the right. if so look at the pass side ball joint. did you replace the wheel berings? if so recheck the torque on them. you must aline the front end properly as said above. highly unlikely it the steering box.
