Starting Problem?

My car has started to act up when I try to start it. Well sometimes it just wont start. It wont even crank when I turn the key, Nothing happens. Everything is connected. It only does this every once and awhile. Like once a week. And I will have to push start it to get it running. After I push start it, it will then start right up if I turn it off. Its pretty weird. the car will be sitting for a few months but I am wondering what it might be for now.
Thanks for the help,

Brad

But if I push start it, and then shut it off, it will crank right over. The Battery and alternator are bran new by the way.

the wire that goes from the ignition key module to the starter solenoid doesnt have a sturdy connection. this wire may be loose at the connector on the starter solenoid or may be partially corroded. when you push start the car it gets jerked around and hits a good spot so then you can start it. this is only a possibility, im not 100 percent sure but i have had problems with that connector before so check it. its the small wire with a black connector on the top of the solenoid.

Most common problem is a bad ground strap on the starter. Check the connections and make sure they are good clean and tight.

some 1st gens are notorious for this, I had several that did this but one real bad.
I had to replace the starter once a year at least, It would just eat them up.

I though it was bad connections so I cleaned and checked all connections and no luck, I even had the local auto parts store check the starters and they were confirmed bad.

I finally replaced all connections and it fixed the problem.

Yeah, I plan on upgrading all my wires and connections eventually to match the fuseable link upgrade as well as the wiring for my stereo.

Well that really helps. I didnt think about checking the starter. Its fairly new so I dont think its that, if it was then you would at least get a clicking sound when you turn the key. Ill have to check and see if thats the problem tonight,

Thanks guys

Well I went out and checked it out and found the it looks like the whole solnoid seems loose. It will turn if you pull on the cable. That doesnt seem right so I might just return the starter and swap it for a new one
