Starting my car up in the morning (40 F)

when i started my car up yesterday morning it died 3 times while i let it idle. and when i started drving, about a minute later, it wouldn't hold an idle. it starting running right after it got up to normal operating temperature. today, i started it in the moring. it was about 35-40 degrees. it died once, then i had to manually idle it. otherwise it would die. when it was running this morning, it sounded really deep and it was running really roughly. it made the whole car shake. i know it was probably bad for it to just leave it off the next time it died, but it wouldnt start back up.

so, anyone know if there is anything wrong with or it just wont due in this weather. it hasnt been tuned since the engine swap, so it's actually running rich.

I had to start leaving my car outside this week (first time in its life ) and I'm having the same problems. A new set of spark plugs will probably help things considerably.

My 12A with dellorto can be a bit of a bear on these cold mornings. Starting seems best with 2-3 pumps of the accelerator pedal and then, once its started, pulling out the choke until it maintains an idle above 1000rpms.

After the first few minutes of driving it has a real lumpy idle like a bridge-port. Not exactly sure why, sounds cool though. This goes away after 10 minutes.

Is your enrichment device connected to the manual choke ****?

okay, a few things. i got home from school, i was about to go to work, and i tried to start it up, it wasnt fireing. im assuming it was flooded from this morning. my mechanic told me i need new spark plugs, so im just going to get some and see if that helps. i'll do all the steps i know how to to unflood it. i dont know, while im changing the spark plugs, is it alright to turn it over with all of them out? also, im in Bloomington Indiana. do you need a lighter oil in the winter? i just put 20w-50 in it. could this cause problems. thanks.

its a carb with a wet manifold, the fuel is condensing on the inside of the intake, its just because its cold, my car does it to, its fine.

okay, so now its flooded as hell and im trying like **** to unflood it. but before i even get it running im going to change the oil to some 10w-30. is it alright (i had a recent oil change) to just drain the 20 50 in it now, and keep the same filter for a while? then im going to get some new spark plugs. im going to take the plugs out over night to let it evaporate. is that alright in this cold?? after all that, if it doesnt start. im going to push start it but that will take some man power. ive gotten it to fire, but never to run becuase it's too hard and too flooded. anyone have any suggestions or answers to my questions?

time for a tune-up.
plugs
wires
cap and rotor
check coils for too much resistance
air filter
fuel filter
remove and clean out carb, might need rebuild.

does the dellorto still have size 75 idle fuel jets in it? it'll run better with 80 if not ported, 82-85 if streetported

you can reuse that oil filter in this instance.

clean the plugs with brake cleaner spray and a toothbrush. if too filthy clean with Castrol Super Clean or other heavy duty cleaner. ok to warm the plugs with hair dryer or put in oven!

to unflood, drain fuel out of carb, remove plugs, disable ignition system then turn motor on the starter and gas will spray out spark plug holes onto the paper towels you put next to the engine.
