Stand Alone Ignition

I have searched and the question never really gets answered:
What kind of stand alone ignition systems can people use on a 12a?
I am not talking about a chop job using the stock dizzy. I am talking a complete stand alone system that removes the stock dizzy. Has anyone tried this or had any luck?

I am waiting for a write up for a TII ignition using the trigger wheel and ECU to run it on my Blowthrough so I can get ride of the locked distrubuter I use. I am not sure it is doable, but I know someone who has this equipment if I want to try.

Haltech sold an IG4 and IG5 for a while. They are ignition control computers. There's probably others.

http://www.electromotive-inc.com/products/xdi.html There you go it's exactly what your looking for. As far as cost I don't know but it's made by Electromotive so it will be worth the price they are one of the best systems out there.

HP right around 300 is the goal, but its not a matter of improved performance. Its a matter of control, and give the old rotary a much needed tech upgrade. dizzy sparks are a thing of the past, and not needed anymore. The problem I run into is the crankle angle sensor issue. Is there a way to gut the stock dizzy to put the right pickups in? I think it was code blue i saw with 4 coils.....Maybe I should check there.

Quoted from electromotive website:
"• One Control Unit for 99% of all engine Applications"
My luck the 12a rotary will be that 1%........

Nope... it can't, it can run dual edis with quad coils and a modded CAS or a crank wheel, or it can run the stock CAS and stock ignitor/coil with the Wheel Decoder code for leading (with a dual lm1815 circuit, easy enough to build and hook up). I'm still working out the best value of pull-up resistor to signal the ignitor, but I'll have that nailed this evening, and the car runs great everywhere except idle with my current pull-up resistor (2.2k, going to put in 1.5k tonight)...

Trailing with programmable split will probably arrive in the next 2 or 3 weeks, as the author of the MSnS-extra code gets time to work on it.

The car I'm talking about is Tofuball's 'vert... It's running megasquirt with the MSnS-extra firmware, version 024s9, using it for fuel, hooked up to a techedge wideband for AFR, Firing stock leading ignition (And soon stock trailing) using the stock CAS (just stabbed in the engine a little differently from stock), controlling VDI, AUX ports, and BAC valve. Other features we're using are the AFR tables (to aid in tuning).

Keep in mind that using some of these features requires some megasquirt hardware mods (just soldering wires and resistors to places where they didn't originally go mostly, and removing parts of circuits that aren't needed, and building simple circuits to switch on solenoids and such, we'll document the whole project with pics and stuff once it's finished).

That's the way I'd do a 2 rotor with MegaSquirt.

Yeah, and four coils which fire with no split like renns' EDIS setup. I'm not sure how much they spent, but they've had their share of problems. MegaSquirt, by contrast, seems like a much more capable option these days. The price is definitely right.

Im in NOVA and I belive Pele will be helping as well.
