Spring compressed, can't get the lock nut off

HEEEELLLLLPPPPP!! I'm attempting to replace my front springs and shocks. I've got the spring compressed but can't get the lock nut off the top of the shock. I don't care about the shock so I've tried to grip it visegrips and turn the nut... nothing. Any ideas?

Air tools. If you do not have access to an impact wrench, tote it down to a local garage and see if they'll spin it off for a couple of bucks.

Just use a vise, not visegrips.

Eastwood Company makes a socket head to do this. It has one head within the other. I have never seen this anywhere else, so check out their site or catalog.

I had this exact problem, about a month ago. Just take it to were the air tools are. An impact wrench will make short work of it.

take it to a garage, like everyone else said.

I had this exact same problem. I couldn't get it off, the welder couldn't get it off with a torch, finally I took it to a local mechanic with air tools. End of story dude.

An air compressor and a impact wrench isnt a bad investment. I got a HUGE air compresor and it was like $300, impact wrench was like $30... Makes a nice addition to the garage.

You can pickup an electric impact gun for not too expensive. I got one from a harbor freight, and it was cheap but did the job, quick.
If you don't have access to an air gun, buy an electric one. They work ok.

Tried with my air impact wrench. Same result. These ***** on on there. Guess I'll swing by the garage.
