Spark Plugs???
hey
I've got a 1985 RX-7 GSL
i recently replaced the plugs with a set of autolites
i was afraid something might go wrong with the different type of plugs
but nothing has broken yet =o
but i wanted to know if it would be better/more efficient to replace THOSE
with a same style spark plug that mazda has, the plugs with 4 ground electrodes surrounding the center electrode?
thanks

I've had issues with the Denso plugs before, which was fixed by swapping them out for the NGK plugs. I've never tried the Autolite plugs before, and use only NGK ever since that happened.
Others have had success with either of those plugs though, so this is just my opinion.

My car had autolites in it when I bought it. They seemed to work fine, but I went with NGK's when it was time to replace them. I change the plugs every year, just to be sure I don't have any problems.
Last time I changed them, I installed 2nd gen plugs, and they seem to work just as well.

I had FC (bur7eq and bur9eq respectively) plugs in my SA when I got it and they wroked well for the condition of the car(clogged return valve, so it flooded alot). I swapped over to Direct fire and now use Bur7eq's in the leading side and Br8eq14's in the trailing side. I tried Autolites once in my FB when it flooded out and I wanted to replace the spark plugs. I couldn't even get it started with them. That's just my experience. I've also used the Denso plugs with no problems

Even though RB recommends 9 heat range for street ported motors, I'd only use 9s if you took the car on the road race track. When I ran 9s on the street for several years in 12a SP and 13b 4port SP they fouled quicker, were harder to start, idled poorly, worse throttle response.
BUR8EQ-14 are a great all around city/highway plug that improved everything across the board. And for people driving predominantly in the city, go with the 7 heat range.
I have a set if Iridium 7 heat range NGK's that'll go in once these BUR8EQ-14's wear out.
