Question spark plug replacement, how often?

Just wondering how often you guys replace your spark plugs? I've read where some guys replace 'em at every oil change, but that seems a wee bit excessive to me. I've had mine in for about 9k miles so far and upon inspection the actually look okay. Is it time to change 'em or what?

i know rotaries go through plugs extremely fast but i dont know why, and i am one of those people who has to know why...so......why? every oil change sounds too often unless you take your 7 to the track all the time or race it like everyday. im not sure how long they are supposed to last if you drive normally, but then again, most people with 7's dont

I change mine every 1,500 in my 1st gen, but then again I only put that on it or less in a year.

Why i was told the plugs wear out is due to the fire three times as much as a piston plug.

You're almost right... they only fire twice as often.

with RX-7 plugs....use the 4 pronged ones...and replace them as often as you like....but remember, the hotter the spark the faster the car!!

So is it correct in thinking that with a direct fire "wasted spark" setup it would then fire 4 times as often as a ****-ton engine?

I have the denso 4 prong ones in now. they get dirty real quick, im thinking of switching to NGK. so say you have a rotary and a piston engine that both are driven with the same stress on them and have the same brand of plugs, how long should the rotary ones be replaced if the piston ones are supposed to be at 50000 miles?

Probably a bit of just over-maintenance, but, I mean if they want/can afford to do it, I guess nice clean spark plugs are better than older, somewhat burned out ones..... 2000miles seems maybe a little excessive, but hey can't really fault them for looking after their Rotary. I've always stuck to the NGK plugs. A litter more expensive than the Denso one's but from what you get out of them, worth it IMHO.

Sort of, the 4 times more than a piston thing. Or you can look at it this way. Ahem. Direct fire with 0º and 180º sparks on the Leading plugs causes them to fire twice as often. They will most likely wear twice as fast. If that happens, you'll only need to buy two new plugs instead of all four.

If you only drive your Rx7 in the summer (like I do/will) Once a year should be good. I figure if a piston changes at 50,000 I'll change my plugs at a little under 20,000km (what I put on my daily driver every year, which INCLUDES winter, though I'll probably do more driving with the Rx7 in summer to make up for it).

For the price of plugs (like $20 CDN for all four) once a year is nothing.

We'll see how it turns out.
