Rob - what are you talking about?

If I try to interpret your question, it sounds like you're talking about the thermal reactor/aka exhaust header, but there are no 'looped wires' attached to the exhaust system unless you have a O2 sensor on an SE.

If you're talking about the brown and black FUSIBLE LINKS at the driver's side shock tower (mounted to the front facing side), then these are in-fact, fusible links that are wires with metal blade connectors on each end, usually with a cloth insulating fabric around the wire itself.

These control headlights, ignition, and engine electrical systems so that they can tolerate a large initial voltage and not burn out. Such as when you turn the headlights on and there's a surge to run the lid motors and provide power to the bulbs. Once they are up and the bulbs are lit, a much lower voltage/amperage is required by the system, thus the fusible links prevent fuses from being burned out each time you turn on functions.

If this is what you're talking about, you can get these from Mazdatrix.com for about $7-8 each, and I would recommend getting a few and keeping spares in the glovebox. They are small, and kinda expensive, but cheap insurance if you ever get stranded somewhere and nothing else will do.

The color of the fusible link denotes the designed amperage rating, I don't recall these right offhand, but replace same with same to prevent future electrical problems. They are older technology, but work very well for what they do - until they go out. HTH,
