Sparadic loss of Oil/coolant... wtf! help!

So about a week and a half ago, my "Add Coolant" light came on, pulled into a gas station and checked my antifreeze level, it was fine, almost to the top. Got back in the car and about 2 blocks later the light turned off.

Bad sensor? Maybe.
And in the last 10 days this light has haunted me, every so often it turns on, then turns off, sometimes it's dim, sometimes bright. What the heck?

This morning:
I come home from running a couple errands and pull into the driveway and see two very large wet spots on the driveway, side-by-side. I checked the coolant reservoir and it was almost bone dry! Then I checked my oil level, almost to the bottom of the stick, it took a whole quart.

I didn't add any laxative to my last tank of gas... whats with these bowel movements??

I'm going outside to check the car in a little bit and see if its still leaking, I'll post on that later.

Mine was doing the coolant loss thing. Turned out to be a couple of loose hose clamps (a friend pressure tested it).

Not sure what year you have, but you might want to check the heater hose - it runs from under the oil cooler to the firewall. Mine blew from a hole caused by oil dripping, over time, from the oil cooler. If you run your fingers along the underside, near the hose clamp, you'll be able to feel if there's any wear, hole, etc.

If its an 83-85 (or has the beehive oil cooler)

Start by looking for leaks.

Ok, thanks for all the help.

I just rolled the car back and there are no new leaks, so whatever the leak is from only happens when either A) the engine and oil is hot, and/or B) when the oil is pressurized.

FYI the car is an 81 (look at my name )
I'll be digging into all this tomorrow, its too dark here now.
Happy Turkey Day everyone!

Hey, names dont mean much around here. People tend to keep names, and change cars.

Check that the overflow hose isint plugged, leaking. And look for leaks. Happy Turkey day to you too.
