Question What are these SA parts? (pics)

I've been outside for about an hour trying to get this SA to fire up. It ran for about 5 seconds, smoked like crazy, then stalled out, and didn't want to start again.

I'm assuming its just flooding?

Anyways....what are these parts in the pics? Is this supposed to be that way, or could it be a problem?

First is this orange unplugged harness. Where's it supposed to connect to?

Next is this little hole in the top of the distributor cap. Is it a vent, or supposed to have something there?

And yes, I know the engine is filthy, I'm degreasing it now.

I thing the orange plug is part of the rats nest that looks to be taken half apart. The hole in the distib is supposed to be there well i hope anyway....mine is the same way.

The orange connector doesn't actually connect to anything on the '79. I'm not really sure why it's there. As for the dizzy, I'm pretty sure there is supposed to be a cap on that. I have an '81 dizzy now, so it's been a while since I've looked at the points cap.

I looked in the Haynes manual, the orange one is for California emissions, so unless you have a Cali spec car...it's just an empty plug.
