I will soon order a tII tranny from revolution rotory.
I read in a post that the older TII trannys fit much easier.
What years are the better fitting tranny, and how can I identify it from the others.
I talked to the guy at revolution, he said he could see there was a difference in the cases but the mounting was the same he didnt think it would make a difference.
how can I explain to him how to tell the difference.
or shouldnt I care.

I believe the S5 actually has better bearings in the box. Making it a slightly better box. Although, I don't really think it would matter too much.
Externally I don't think there are any differences, but they must have someway of telling them apart. Maybe a serial number or something.
Good luck.

I'd get a S4 box they are a lot easier to mount into a FB. The S4 boxes have a flat area just like the n/a transmissions do, all you have to do is space the transmission upwards 3/4" with a block of aluminum, steel or whatever. You can see the pic's here ---> https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...threadid=75879
The S5 boxes have a "cradle" shape mount that you have to fab something up to make it fit, ask NOTA V6 he knows all about this problem.
Here is the thread on how to modify your shift rod and tube to fit the FB chasis. https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...5&pagenumber=2

Space the trans down about 3/4" inch and the driveshaft looks pretty good in there
