soon to order a TII tranny for my FB13b, which year to buy and how to identify it?
I will soon order a tII tranny from revolution rotory.
I read in a post that the older TII trannys fit much easier. What years are the better fitting tranny, and how can I identify it from the others. I talked to the guy at revolution, he said he could see there was a difference in the cases but the mounting was the same he didnt think it would make a difference. how can I explain to him how to tell the difference. or shouldnt I care. |
S5 tranny is better i believe it has better shifter bushings..
That is the only difference i can think of, but you might want to post in the 2nd gen forum.. -Zach |
I am going to my 82 shift linkage on the transmission so I dont think that matters.
would it. |
No, it wouldn't :)
But you still might want to ask in the 2nd gen forum to make sure there are no other differences.. -Zach |

if u have a N/A 13b i'm assuming an SE then why wouldnt you leave the tranny. Sounds like a waste of time to me.

Stezipt or whatever his name is had a great thread on how to out the old linkage on the TII tranny, i couldnt find it.does anyone have the link.
it should be in the archive. Direct freak, your signature is on one of my posts also |
I believe the S5 actually has better bearings in the box. Making it a slightly better box. Although, I don't really think it would matter too much.
Externally I don't think there are any differences, but they must have someway of telling them apart. Maybe a serial number or something. Good luck. |

The only downside to having a TII tranny is the cost.

I'd get a S4 box they are a lot easier to mount into a FB. The S4 boxes have a flat area just like the n/a transmissions do, all you have to do is space the transmission upwards 3/4" with a block of aluminum, steel or whatever. You can see the pic's here ---> https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...threadid=75879
The S5 boxes have a "cradle" shape mount that you have to fab something up to make it fit, ask NOTA V6 he knows all about this problem. Here is the thread on how to modify your shift rod and tube to fit the FB chasis. https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...5&pagenumber=2 |
thanks alot setzep,
now, how do I explain to the guy how to tell the difference between the two. |
