Unhappy Frustrated and need some advice.

Hey All,

Here goes:

I had some surging and idle problems with my 85 GSL-SE. I took the throttle body off and cleaned it and they cleared up. Idled at 800rpm great. I recently had my tranny replaced with one from a 90 NA, and I put a new O2 sensor in. Since then idle has been stable but high @ 900-1100rpms.

So I tried adjusting the air idle screw.. down to 900 if I close the screw all the way. Then I tried cleaning the BAC and ASV. that worked ok, cept when I went to tighten the top nut that holds the BAC valve on, the frikkin' bolt broke. That gasket was done for but now I have a intake leak there.

What's the best thing to do? Should I remove my BAC valve altogether?.. looking for a economical solution if I can. Also based on the above info and the fact my exhaust is almost done for, does the high idle issue sound like a tps problem, or is it possible that after a few weeks in the shop the plates could be sticking open again?

Thanks

/F/

Epoxy over the whole thing to seal the leak.

Or try to use an easy out to remove the broken bolt if there isn't enough to grap with a vise grips. Then replace the gasket.

The BAC is basically only good for upping the idle when a/c comes on. It's doubtful that you'd miss it. But if you have hesitations, I'd easy out-it. Very quick, very easy.

The TPS and the exhaust have nothing to do with one another. Definitely you should adjust the TPS, though, if you haven't. There's tons of write-ups on this and it's very very easy. Just make sure you put a jumper on the plug before you start anything (this should be explained in the write-up you find, but if it's not, tell me and I'll explain what I mean).

It is possible the plates are sticking, but not too likely. Pull the snorkel off the throttle body and peek in there. Might want to check them for factory clearance while you're at it.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Yep, for some reason I thought those bolts holding the BAC valve on were welded to the dynamic chamber, but I sprayed a little wd-40 around the bolt and then vised it out easy.

Just got a replacement stud and am going to put it in. At least it will be held on properly. The BAC gasket is done for though...so I'll have to find a replacement. For now I will just try and silicone around the whole thing.

I will try the TPS adjustment as I have no idea if it's right or who did it last. Only thing I checked was that the resistance was 1k at idle. But I did not do the check lamp adjustment.

Thanks for all the advice,

/F/
