Bob, the mazda wheels from that period are a hub centric interfearance fit, IE they fit really tight in the center hole to alighn the wheel. probably you have corrosion that has formed between the aluminum of the wheel, and the steel of the axle. lots of PB blaster, and a 3 foot section of 4 x 4 will take care of it normally.

Soak it with the PB for a while, and then smack it around the circumferance with the 4x4 till it pops off. if this doesn't work the only other option is to heat them up (not advised unless you plan on replacing the wheels)

kenn

forgot, run some snadpaper around the inside of the center hole after you get it off, and put a dabb of paint in that area to keep it from corroding again later

take a big *** rubber mallet to the tire as well. Or, normally, I leave one lugstud loose, and kick it off. But the 4x4 method works just as well.

i work at a tire shop and we usually kick the hell out of the tire to get it to pop off. if it's really bad we try and wedge a breaker bar between the tire and something sturdy.
when we have it off we usually put something like lithium grease, anti-seaze, or zep on the hub.

good luck

hell yeah.. we can get anything off.. and if we damage them all you have to do is complain and we buy you all new wheels..
I usually use my roundhouse kick for stuck wheels .. and if its really bad a sledge hammer...

put the 4 lugs back on, but loosely, drop car on the wheel with the loose lugs Given that the car weighs 2400 pounds with equal weight distribution, that's 600 pounds of force stationary. Or drive around with loose lug nuts, you'll know when the wheel breaks free.

I'd go for a kick on the tire or a SOFT FACE dead blow hammer to the inner lip of the rim.

If all else fails, loosely install the lugs, and lower the car onto the ground. Then start rocking the car side-to-side. Have assistance if needed. You may need to roll it forward and back a few times, shaking it at several locations, but this should work the centers loose.
Anti-sieze coating on the hub/wheel centers is a very usefull tool, after removing the corrosion, to prevent this from reccurring.

That is how we did it when I was a tire buster.

Hammer works beast.

Beat on the botom of the rim, then rotate the tire 180 Deg. and beat there.

They will give...eventually.

Then get a wire wheel and clean up the back of each rim and the mateing surfice on each hub.
