clean tail lights

Is there an easy way to clean the tail lights on an 85? I have a little dust between the outside clear cover and the lights. Can these be seperated easily or not? Just don't want to be taking anything apart that I might screw up.
Thanks

You need to completely remove the entire cluster as a unit. That's the easy part- just a few fasteners as I recall. Then you will need to use an exacto knife and cut the gasket for the lens. Go very slow, as the lense can be brittle. Clean everything out, and then replace the gasket with a clear flexible silicone. Make sure that you give it time to cure under pressure before you put it back on the car.

If you touch it it will fall apart later. Gluing the inner & outer lenses back together will fail almost immediatly. You need to purchase new units.

I used RTV silicon to hold my covers on, it works fine. They do come off kinda easily if you try to tear them off, but as long as you dont mess around with them too much they will be fine.

Speaking of good 'ol ioTus, im finishing up my custom clear taillights. All you have to do for this mod is listed at Custom Clear Taillights by ioTus. He gives a well shown walkthrough and says the the single hardest part is getting the $%#$^& cover off the taillights. Anyways, i chose to go with a "cracked ice" style, and it turned out really well i think. I will be posting pics of it shortly, once i get everything back together and glued
