Lightbulb Some peer pressure

All right I have been looking around for all the info I can find about my LS and there is not much. All I really found was people claming that there were only 3,000 made which I don’t really believe. The only other information I have is a couple of appraisal slips from my local Mazda dealer, which was under heavy debate by the club.

So my question is this what would you do?
I have the original LS rims that need a serious cleaning they also have some rust.
The engine has 68,500 miles on it and runs like new.
The body is in great condition has a few spots that were touched up because of a quarter size spots of rust.
The enterer is in great condition; the only thing it needs is a new shift ****.

Would you guys do this or not? Plus any upgrades you can recommend will be great help, but please include were I can find them at. Still kind of new!

same predicament

Hey! Sweet, You and I should definatly keep in touch! I just got an 80ls and I have been pouring over everythhing I can find on the subject. Check out my thread on page two.

I really think I am going to put the 13bt into her. I would love that kind of horse for all the hills and corners up here, but 100hp with the 12a just isn't enough. What rims do you have on your car? I have some kind of alloy with gold in the middle and a polished ring on the border (not doing the description justice). I have a flawless spare too. I just look at the car and can't help but grin.... that's right.... that's my car... bit@*es Ha! kidding...

What you do to the car depends entirely on what you plan to do with the car. If you are going to drive the car you'll be better off to keep it as stock as possible. DONT DO ANYTHING YOU CAN'T UNDO at least until your positive you want to do it.

I’m not sure what I want to do to it yet. But all I know right now is, I want it to go faster. But I understand gypsyvk what you’re getting at. Currently the car is a daily driver, but soon it will only be driven a couple times a week. I’m in the process of buying another car.

I would do very tasteful mods to it. Ignition upgrade, removing rat's nest, header, new carb. That will render quite a bit quicker of a car. Just make sure you keep all the stock components so that if you do decide you want to go back to all original you can.

That’s what I was thinking. What would you recommend for carb, I was thinking of the Holley RB setup. Will removing the rats nest improve the 7 much? I have read about the rats nest in my searches but when you remove it, what do you use to plug up the holes were the houses went? And on a scale from 1 to 10 how hard is it to take out and will I need a tune up after? If its easy I might do it this weekend.

It is extremely easy to do. If you check the stickies at the top of the section you will find a link on how to remove the rat's nest. You need to remove it if you want good power gains. When I bought my '84 the guy had started removing it, and so it only took me about five minutes to remove the rest of it. If you are talking about where the vacuum lines hook up, you just plug those up with rubber plugs. You may need to adjust the carb a bit, but if you've ever adjusted the carb then you know how easy it is. Just need a screw driver for the stock Nikki carb. As for new spark plugs and everything like that, if you replaced them recently, then there is no reason to replace them again.

As for carb, I went with the RB Holley streetport setup. Its a good carb and everything, but if I had more time to choose a carb before my stock one hit the *******, I would have probably went with a Mikuni Sidedraft or a Weber carb. The part I liked most about the Holley is that it was the entire setup.

Read the sticky for the SA looks a little scary! I guess Halloween came early for me LOL. When you removed your rats nest you just plug up the vacuum holes. MMMMM Maybe I can find someone around were I live that will want to help me out.

The '79 Limited, '80 LS and '83LE were all low volume cars. When the time comes that the value of the 1st gen starts to increase, these are the ones that will likely increase the most.
Any mods done to the car, would likely hurt the value. Therefore, don't do anything that cannot be undone.
