Just buy another carby for bits, they're cheap enough.

What's wrong with the floats fitted to your current carb??

I rebuilt my carb awhile back and floats cleaned up and worked fine after 118,000 miles and sitting for 13 years...

you shouldnt have to replace the floats unless they are cracked or dented. the floats will need to be measured and reset according to spec when replacing if you so choose to. i replaced the needles, cleaned the jets and air bleeds, replaced the body gaskets and air horn gaskets, cleaned the floats and bowls and my carb is like brand new. as far as replacing the floats and where to obtain them you can try napa or through the dealer or a set from a part carb. i have a ton of spare parts and if you need a set of floats, i can sell you a set. if not, which i reccomend, then clean them up and reinstall them.

Don't reset the floats unless they've been stuffed with. They never go out of whack by themselves.

Just be sure your mate puts the gaskets back under the seats when he re-installs them.

Floats do not go out of adjustment on thier own. The most common cause is mis-handling, followed by changing the floats themselves. When setting the floats, the gasket must be in place during measurement and setting. Adjusting the float settings when it's not needed is one of the most common problems to troubleshoot later for the novice rebuilder.

bingo. make sure you check the the float measurement before reassembling the carb. do this just to be safe and to ensure that the floats are set accordingly.
