So far so good

I rebuilt my carb and got it mounted back on last night. I can't say how much I learned about this carb. It looks complicated with all the crap mounted to the outside but was one of the easiest carbs I have ever worked on. (four barrel that is) Anyway I got it on and it started pumping fuel down the carb like crazy. Sticky float valve? Then it was time for dinner. Did'nt work on it any further. Then in the middle of the night it hit me. I am such a dumb ***. I didn't hook up the wire for the vent silenoid. So as soon as the sun came up I was up and out the door to check. Sure as **** I forgot to connect the wire. I still messed up on the choke linkage placement and have to fix that. But it starts right up. Idles for a few and dies but I am not going to worry about that till the choke is working. Otherwise it runs like a different motor if I keep on the gas. I plan to still change the pump and add a regulator. With that the fuel system will be completly overhauled or replaced. And during the rebuild I found my vac leak, I think. It was where the ACV mounts. At the very top, under the shield that is made from the carb spacer. There was a bit of juck that was up in there that I could not see do to shield. With the carb off it is very easy to see everything. Also I foun that the shuttervalve was stuck in a closed postion. I zip tied it open. So with all that said I will change the oil and fix the choke and will will see how it runs. But as of right now it is promissing.

It runs, and it runs killer. Got it all dialed in this evening. Man what a difference. And it is very loud. It sounds great at an idle though. Everything seems great. Just need to change the oil and it is ready to drive. Thanks eveyone for all your help. And thanks Sterling for the Carb FAQ. Not to mention the rest of the FAQ contributors. This site is the best I have been on.
