So close I can taste it.

I am really putting alot of hours in on the car and forum! I have had my first 7 for 8 days and love working on it. Driving would be nice though. It is a stock 85 12a(GS?) except for the rats nest removal. I cleaned the gas tank, because it was really dirty. I added a clear filter to monitor what was going on in the line. Cleaned out the carb (very well) , but didn't get rebuild kit.

I guess the car loves my yard. Here at the house it runs fine and you can rev it all you want. When I drive, the car stalls and jerks front to back. It doesn't matter if I drive like granny or well, me. I thought my problem was too low fuel volume, but I could watch my clear filter while I kept the car revved to like 4-5K, or up and down the spectrum, and it stayed pretty much full.

What the heck??

You need to inspect the isght glass for the fuel level in the carb, you may have too low level.

I feel your pain man. I've had my 83 rx7 for about the same time now and am waiting on parts so I can drive her. I've already put a new gas tank on and of course all of the associated tune up parts on. I've got to rebuild my omp and while I have everything apart, the rats nest is going bye-bye. Maybe getting rid of your rats nest is something you should do too. It helps limit the amount of vacuum hoses that may be a cause to your problem. Just a thought.

Yup, that's the only thing I've modified on it so far.

Mine had the same issue, caused by no gas to the secondaries. If that's the case, rebuild the carb. Good luck!

I felt like it was pretty easy to do. I had to ask a few questions along the way, but the tutorial tells you at least 95% of the info you need to do the mod. There is a link to the tutorial in the 1st gen FAQ page. I recommend following the advice given there to get the parts needed before starting. It was nice to be able to take a project from start to finish, without having to go to the store.
