Tinny exhaust note?!?!?!

I just installed a header and straight pipe on my '85 7. The only baffle I have is the stock muffler. This thing is way to loud! It also sounds like the car is inside a tin can. What aftermarket muffler can i install to quiet it down to a more tollerable tone for daily driving. Can I buy one of those %100 stainless steel mufflers from the local parts store? I can see straight through them, how can it possibly work well? Any help?

I would recommend the racing beat muffler. Its not cheap, but it definatly makes your exhausts note alot nicer and a little quieter. Its not cheap (237$ shipped) but it will last a long time. I personally love mine.

I would love to get a racing beat muffler but can't afford it right now. Any alternatives for the time being?

$20 thrush muffler and Advance Autoparts. It'll last around 3-6 months depending how you drive, and its pretty quiet.

I've seen the thrush mufflers there. That is where i saw the polished stainless steel mufflers. What goes bad on the thrush mufflers? Do they burn up?

Also, with it having an 8 inch diameter, it deepens the sound and makes it not as tinny

Thats the good ol' weedwacker buzz of a headered rotary.
Ive got a nearly new, fully stainless steel Edelbrock muffler with a raw stainless 3" tip.It will last forever behind a rotary and its a straight through design that splits in two and goes back to single out back.It probably wont muffle as good as the stock muffler, but it should change the tone being large diameter inside. If you want a quiet, deep tone then the RB is the only answer. It wasnt buzzy on my car with a S5 turbo (which tends to sound like a headered N/A engine). It was loud but tolerable.

The Edelbrock is $100 bucks new for the SS model.Sell it for $35 plus a couple bucks shipping.

I have a RB powerpulse on my se, it is much buzzier than the magnaflow on my a. Both had header and presilencer. I preferred the magnaflow by far, get the biggest magnaflow available so it has a quiter tone at cruise, but a nice deep growl on acceleration.

Are you talking about the round stainless mufflers or the ones you see on the parts store shelves? Either? This would be something I would have to order? Got a website?

You say that this muffler has a streetable tone? And you picked it up from ebay for about $25? Sounds like it could work.

Make sure the exhaust fasteners remain tight after a few days of driving, too. Tiny leaks can develop at the gaskets after heatup and cooldown while driving upon an initial install.

try using the stock FD muffler. it pretty much has the same packing design as the RB primaflow. but i believe that the FD muffler flows a bit better since it came off from a turbo car
