Exclamation smoke problem

I have an 84 rx7 se with a 12a and i have a horrible smoke problem. It smokes a little bit when i first start it up but it goes away after idling for awhile. As soon as the engine reaches normal running temp. it smokes out of the engine compartment and exhaust. The smoke is white and thick like fog. I have ran the car a few times and each time it reaches normal temp. it smokes like a chimney. I checked the antifreeze level and it hasn't moved so i don't think it's burning antifreeze. Any help is very appreciated, thanx.

wats the smoke smell like? if its sweet smelling you most likely have an internal coolant leak

Throw a timing light on her and verify that you still have your leading ignition. Loss of leading ignition can cause excessive heat in the engine, so you may be seeing all of the old oil and stuff burning off the surface of the engine. Happened to me, those were the symptoms. Good luck.

I have an extra one if you happen to need it. Also Auto Zone sells them new for roughly 30 bucks a piece. I had to go to 2 different locations last time to get 2 in one day.

Exclamation

I checked the coils and they are doing their job, i still can't find out why this thing smokes only after it warms up. It isn't coolant either it has a burning oil smell and a hint of blue in the smoke. Does the OMP pump in more oil after the engine is warm? Is the pump outa whack, pumping too much oil in after it gets warmed up? I noticed the idle increases to about 2,000 RPM's right before it smokes the whole neighborhood. Any input or thoughts would be nice, thanx again

dunno if its true on a rotary but on a piston engine when it runs hot it will increase rpms on idle most of the time...i noticed that when i was driving a suzuki samurai with some serious problems

sounds like O-rings to me!

like they asked earlier, whats it smell like, that sweet sickly smell is coolant.

if its comeing from the engine bay, it could be a cracked OMP line leaking onto the exhasut manifold.

on a 20 some odd year old car the little plastic lines like that crack easy. it does take a little while for the omp to bring oil up if they are back draining, (which they might do if the hose was cracked). then as the hose fills, it starts dripping on the manifold causeing all kinds of smoke.

could be either.

you say its a 84 SE with a 12A? maybe its not an se, just got se badges is it an auto? a friends (not rotary) front seal went out on his auto tranny, and started slinging so much oil that it splashed out an inspection cover (that idiot boy didn't replace) and was spalshing on his headers and they smoked like a crack fiend on dollar day.

just ramblin again

This is jedi69 under a different name. Sorry about the confusion. I have two rx-7's. Ones an 84 gsle-se but the one i'm having problems with is an 84 gs thats an auto. The coolant level hasn't moved yet so i'm thinking it's oil it's burning. It doesn't smell sweet either. I think i'm going to unhook my OMP after it gets warmed up to c if it still smokes with it unhooked? I'm not sure if it will help much but i figured i would give it a try.

I checked the OMP lines and they seem to look in alright shape i haven't noticed any oil in the engine bay yet so i'm thinking that the smoke is coming from an exhaust leak near the engine. Thanx again for all your guys's help.
