Smells very rich from behind the car...

My '85 GSLSE smells very rich from anywhere near the rear of the car. To the point of giving me a headache.

I just changed oil/oil filter and spark plugs. It runs a lot smoother, but still smells rich. I know my cat converter is just about gone as it rattles when it's cold. However, I'm wondering if my O2 sensor is not doing it's job correctly, causing the car to run richer than it should.

I'll hookup the wideband to it tomorrow and see what the mixture is at and I'll post it up.

i know that when i ride behind rx7's with cat convertors (especially ones that are fugged up and need replacing) it smells like this. i can stand behind my car and it's not even that bad and i have nowhere near a stock setup. and riding in the car you don't smell a thing. replace the cat (or remove it even) and replace o2 sensor. let us know your wideband results, i'm curious

I have no cats and you can definately tell, especially at stoplights, but it has never been so bad as to make my eyes burn or give me a headache. I actually kind of like it...

I changed my spark plugs, oil/oil filter, and put in about 8oz's of premix, then did another smog pretest and got similar numbers as my first time doing a pretest:

HC
15mph: 883
25mph: 841

CO
15mph: 6.13
25mph: 6.14

NO
15mph: 121
25mph: 138

I'm happy that my CO #'s dropped by more than 1%, but it's wierd that my HC #'s increased (especially by 100 ppm @ 15mph). Why is that?

I don't want to spend the money on a new cat converter until I can get the engine running smoothly and more fuel efficiently.

I also get only 200 miles to a tank! (That's a stock GSLSE tank of 16gallons!)

What are the possible causes to this crazyness?!

Oh yea, AFR #'s will be posted in a sec.

Water temp sensor? Basically, car is running with the "choke" on all the time because it never gets the signal that it is warmed up. That's my guess anyway.
