Which slave cylinder do I need?

My GSL-SE has a motor from an S4 swapped into it. I'm replacing the clutch master and slave, but don't know which slave I need. Here's a picture of the slave on the car right now-not sure if you can tell if it's from the GSL-SE or the S4 motor set.

Get the slave cylinder that matches the transmission in the car. If it's still a GSL-SE trans then get a slave cylinder for a 84-85 13b model.

I think S4 NA cars have the same slave cylinder as the S3 GSL-SE 13b cars. Hopefully someone else can confirm for you on that.

i agree. if the swap still retained the original se trans, then get the slave for the gslse.

The S4 NA might have a really long bleeder screw pedsetal part of the casting. Will this get in your way? Just get a GSL-SE slave so it fits the car. That's what I did.

Somewhat mixed answers here. To clarify the transmission is from the S4.

My car has an S5 NA trans with a GSL-SE slave. That's one series further from orignal than your S4 is.

Think of it this way. The car is a GSL-SE. That means it takes a GSL-SE master cylinder. An FC master won't fit due to differences in design (diagonal aligned mounting studs vs vertical). So it made sense to also get a GSL-SE slave. The results were a perfect clutch pedal that works with the stock helper spring and long travel of the 84-85 chassis. Do you still have questions?

No...I think I'll go ahead with the GSL-SE slave then. They're only like $10. Just wanted to do a little research before ordering.

There are really only three different slave cylinders - '79-80 with the goofy thread pitch, '83-85 12A with the extended bleeder so you can bleed the clutch with the beehive in the way, and everything else.

At least, those are the only factors that you need to concern yourself with. Have an SA? Use an SA slave if you still have SA lines. Have a beehive? Need a '83-85 12A or bleeding the slave will suck massively. Have anything else? Anything will work as long as, as mentioned, the hose threads in.

I'd advise against buying a cheapo aftermarket slave cylinder. If you're going to keep the car for awhile, buy the Mazda OEM part.

Exedy makes it and they make good clutches, so what the hell. If it fails I'll replace it with Mazda.

Kind of bringing back an older thread, but it's relevant to my build. I have a 79sa that I'm swapping a s5 t2 engine into with an s4 t2 trans. I just replaced my clutch master and slave a couple years ago, and installed a stainless clutch line for an sa. Will my slave bolt onto the t2 trans and work fine? Or will I have to install a t2 slave?
