You need to get a dual alternator pully if you want to remove the air pump. A single belt doesn't have enough contact on the water pump and it can/will slip.

I never actually had a problem with my old car and belt slip. If you haven't already, remove the air control valve and get a block off plate.

I know of a lot of people who have had success with the yahoo belt...I am not one of them. In addition to being a complete SOB to get on, I was running them for 3 months, and in that time I went through 4 of them. Granted, they're not like, precision belts or anything, so there is a bit of variance between belts, but I would run dual full belts so you don't get stuck somewhere with a snapped belt.

Or you could do what I did and order gilmer pulleys.

you dont need the dual alt pulley. Ive been running w/o a smog pump for years w/ onle one pully no problem. As long as your a mostly stock application and not tunnin anything crazy your just fine with one belt.

I thrashed my car all day on blacktop in about 100 degree weather with a single belt. No problem staying cool whatsoever..

I run a 3L220 Lawn mower belt for mine, works fine, it looks loose but works great. A 3L210 should work too, but I've never tested these. The dual alt pulley I find has less contact on the water pump pulley, also it seems to constantly need readjustment and I find the 3L220 or yahoo the better way to go.

I ran my 7 for 2 years on just a single belt for the alt and water pump, had no problems with slipping

I do use the RESPEED dual alt pulley now that i switched engines and got some goodies, It's a lot cheaper than RB or Mazdatrix

I also have the 3L220 belt. It was really easy to get on, and it only cost about $5 on Amazon.

See if you cant get a pair of vise grips(really tight) or a pipe wrench on the stripped bolt head and then bump it with a hammer to break it loose.

It shows how he removed a bolt from a water pump on a Toyota Celica.

i think if you still have the stock fan, you should have 2 belts. if you do not have the fan you can usually use just one belt.

one belt plus the fan is a bad idea though.

stock fan, single belt no water pump issues ever.. If ur fan clutch is bad then i could see it being a issue. Re-speed also sells the pully for pretty cheap you can get it from them.

If you get a dual-belt pulley for your alternator, you can run two of the normal e-shaft/water pump/alt belts. I'm running an FD Alt with a dual-belt pulley and it works great. Then again, I have an e-fan, so I probably wouldn't have water pump slippage issues on even a single belt like the folks with clutch-based fans would.

you don't find that the 3l220 belt is too loose?
I used one for a while and thing looked like it was just about to fall off and made a horrible squealing at speed.

While we're talking about this - I used a 3L220 on my 12a and it fit well. 3L210 is too tight. On the 13b I've got now the 3L220 looks quite loose, I haven't run it enough to find issues yet, but the 3L210 was much too tight as well.
