simple idel question

I was wondering if anyone knew whats the best rpm to set idel to? Or should I just play it by ear?

My car idels at 800. Sometimes when its cool, especially in my garage the car shuts off and I get lots of flooding so far its been 2 weeks and 4 sets of spark plugs.

I did search for setting idel and came up empty.

Anyone got a pick of where to adjust the idel just in case if I have to?

Thanks for everyones help

Try searching "idle". It will help if its spelled right. Sorry, that wasn't nice.....

I've normally got mine set at about 750 rpm, however since I put my new lightened flywheel on, the car seems to be happier around 1000 rpm. The car probably isn't going to idle at 750 rpm until it is warmed up. You should keep the choke pulled until the car gets warmed up a little bit. The Haynes manual recommends 750 though...

manual specs are 750 for 12A, 850 for 13B.

I used to always go with 800, but I'm having second thoughts.

While it's important to check timing etc at 800, I'm thinking about setting it closer to 1000. I think it idles more smooth there and it seems to me the slight increase in oil pressure would be better for the engine.

I set my idle to 1000 as well. It just runs better when you first start it up hehe, say I start it cold, it will idle around 850-950 until warm. Once warm it will sit steady about 1000-1100 and run smooth as.

1000.. cool mine is set to around 800 or so.. but the freaking thing keeps hutting off on me so I have to pull the choke a lil and get the rpms to stay at 1000 and everything is good. but when the choke is out the car shuts off. Its makeing me mad. I thought is was because of the leak at the exhaust but i was wrong. Now if I could only figure out how to set the 'idle' I would be fine. I guess I am going to have to buy one of those shop manuels

The shop manual is the best thing you could ever buy for your car It should solve you a lot of problems

previous owner of mine had one, but she threw it out when she got fed up with the car. DOH!!! thats okay gotta insane deal on it!!

read https://www.rx7club.com/1st-gen-general-discussion-207/newbie-407675/ to hear my story

you have to leave the choke on a little even when its warm? am I reading that correctly?

choke pulls the thottle open right?? also adds more gas...either you need to bump up the idle speed or you need to richen the idle...is your timing set right??

should be some kinda screw on the throttle stop to adjust your idle...havn't done it on that car but its pretty standard...you just have to find it...

900 - 1000 seems the best for my car. At 750 or so it idles a little bit too rough, especially when its cold out. I also dont have my choke hooked up nor do I have my fast idle. Definately helps to warm the carr up when it idles (stays running) at a little higher RPM.

When the car is cold, the choke must be pulledout and this gives you 1500rpm. Once the engine warms up the choke automatically goes in bringing the rpm down to 750 where it will idle perfectly. If your choke system is not working push it i n when the water temperature gets up to normal.

If cold I never move the car for two minutes so the oil is warm. This means less wear on the seals and longer engine life
