Silly Question - easy answer?
As I have only had my beautifully loved 7 for a month, and got no manual, a few silly questions answered would be of great help!
1 - my water washers dont work (Need new motor) but where is the switch that squirts the head lights?
2 - same for the rear washer - I found the wiper but NOT the washer ??
3 - you know the clear plastic that covers the rear tail light assembly ? Does it come off - easily? There is so much dirt build up in there I would love to clean it - dont wanna break lens cover!
Sorry to ask such dumb questions - but really like to know - plus - cant find out anywhere!!

1) Never seen an 1st Gen with headlight washers
2) The same switch that operates the rear wiper, operates the washer - push the toggle switch forward
3) There's 6 or 8 nuts that you need to remove to release the rear tail light lens. You can access them through the rear hatch carpet - I think they're 10mm nuts.
Take the time to run down a Mazda Shop Manual - as opposed to Haynes or Chilton (though they're better than nothing). You can usually find one on Ebay for about $15.
Good luck!

Prosthetic head.
Actually, you don't need to remove any bolts or nuts to get the lens off. To remove the entire taillight assembly, remove those bolts. If you just want to remove the lens, basically just pull it off. There are some clips on the outermost side of each light lens, but the rest is held on by glue. You'll have to reglue it.

yeah, Canadian and Australian models I believe came with headlight washers. They're little black things that stick out from the front bumper, and spray the headlights with washer fluid...

Yes, mine is a Series II gen 1 (1983) 7. It has headlight washers on the bumper. Buy new tail assembly? Youch, have you tried buying spares for 20 year old cars in Australia - and it still leaves me with the job of removing the clear plastic assembly and putting it back on. And yes, that wiring manual is HUGE - my thing keeps freezing trying to get it. Thanks for all the input though!

About the rear taillights, I've had only one way work on getting them apart without cracking them.
Go to an auto paint store and get a pint of solvent..I forget the name, but it's used to dissolve any kind of glue or adhesive. I used it initially to remove tint from the rear window, but I found if you remove the taillight assembly and squirt this stuff in the groove where the clear lens is glued to the housing, wait overnight, the clear lens will come off. Work slow and carefully, pulling with your fingers. It'll also help to run a razor blade around the groove first before you start pulling.
Good luck!
BTW, it's worth it, the lights will look 100% better after, it's amazing how much crud works its way in there after 20 years.
