Question side seal springs...

How the **** do you get them out???
and i got a stuck dowdle(sp) pin, i got the housings apart but i cant get the damn thing out of the intermediate housing and its already cracked from when i tried to put a bolt in it to pull it out (not the housing, the pin) whats another way?
also, will mediablasting the engine parts to clean them hurt them?

Get a really good carb cleaner and soak the stuck, carboned parts. The Ford dealers have a foaming carb cleaner that doesn't evaporate, works very well.

I use a dental pic, Dentist style, to dig out the side seal springs, after a good soaking.

Never heard of anyone splitting a dowel, nice job. If you can seperater the irons ans housings, tap the pin out from the back side.

thanks.
i did get the housings apart, after a bit of a fight, is it possible to warp or otherwise **** up the intermediate housing by pushing/pulling/tugging/cussing/spitting/bitching at them?
i laid the thing on a bunch of stacked patio stones and used another dowel pin and a rubber mallet to hammer the stuck one out.

I would buy new seals and springs.. you don't want to tear it apart again in a few months.. that's just me

Side seals are rarely replaced, oddly, they dont' wear much at all and new ones are a pain to trim for fit. All springs should be replaced.

Having just rebuilt my 12a a year ago, can would agree that side seals don't get much wear, plus new one do need to be sanded to size and that can be a pain to do. I used new springs everywhere. get the 3rd gen corner seal springs, they will save you a bunch of time and hassle in the long run over the 12a ones.

You can re-use the side seals.. but change everything else.. Atkins sells a rotor kit for 440.00 which includes all the stuff except gasket kit.. a good deal.
