should I start new?

I might be getting a 1982 gsl with no/little rust. I am not sure if I should abbandon my project car. You can see picks of my car, a 85' gs here: https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/tii-into-85-gs-everything-510137/

well. The other car I can say is in way better shape. Not to mention its got less miles, 72000 Vs. 102000.

Should I just use the '85 as a parts car? maybe I should sell the freaking thing. Ohh another thing.. is if I buy that car I will not be able to buy the tII parts car that I found in the yard. Its an '1990. its been in a roll over or something. There giving it to me for 1000 buks 200 more than the '82. see my dilima?

The 82 is sounding good. The 85 does not look that promising due rust. You can be on the road much faster withthe 82 it sounds like. You did not sya if it runs though. For 800 I think it should.
Get that camera out of the bucket and take pics of the 82!

what are you talking about driveshift?

I just talked to the kid, he said his brother has it, that he needs to use it for a lil while and then he can sell it to me.

'82 starts in the cold of winter with just a turn key and a slight push of the gas with choke, sweet.

You asked if the GSL-SE driveshaft would work. I told you that I would try it for ya. It is about 1-2" too long...

ok.. i bought it. One thing that got me worried is that he told me that he thinks he had the original titla but he wasn't sure. He said when he went to register the car on march 1st that his title was blue. I know that the new titles are tan with brown border or something near that.

First thing i did when I got the keys was rip the bins off and take a look for rust..

yup there is some. It looks like it just started. I am sure I can get it out with rust dissolver, a putty knife, and some rubber gloves. I am also sure I can get some lead sticks and some peices of sheetmetal and work a patch if needed. Where the hell does the water that is on the mat thats down there?

The car has been on the road you said , so my guesss is that the water you see on the mats infiltrates through the rusted area of the fender well.

Here's a test idea: Have a friend use a high pressure hose at a car wash and spray that laminated outer support piece for 30 + seconds and while you observe the interior and see if any water comes through.

You could do a similar test on the hatch glass seal too.
