Engine Swap

Alright heres the deal. I have a 84 GSL-SE w/ a blown engine and a wrecked 87 that still has a good engine. I was thinking about swapping the engine from the 87 into the 84 but I wanted to see if anybody out there knew how that would go. Since they both have the 13b, shouldn't it just drop in and bolt right up to the 84's tranny? Would I need to get different motor mounts or what? I'm not sure if I'm gonna do it or not yet but any advice would be helpful.

13B in GSL-SE has different mounting (by front cover and different oil pan)

front cover and oil pan is swappable

13B in GSL-SE is 4 port with pair of 680' injectors, while 13B from NA FC is 6 port with four 460' injectors

Best bet would be probably using all FC parts, including manifolds, ECU, harness, coils etc to make it run properly. Transmission should be direct fit.

not the to call you out but the 13B in the GSL-SE is a 6port also!!! i do beleive that yo uchange the front cover and oil pan to the 87 13B engine, if you go to the FAQ's at the top of the page it will be able to explain it better then me.

Put the GSL-SE oilpan and front cover on the 87 engine and drop it in.......thats all.The bellhousing pattern and clutch splines are the same. The turbo 2nd gen engine uses a bigger clutch, but the N/A is the same as the SE.

If you want to retain and use the 2nd gen EFI and manifolds, youll have to swap the ECU and all the right side wiring, then make a new left side wiring harness to run the coils,CAS,ECU power and fuel pump.

Do a search, its been covered a million times.....
