Short Throw Installed!

I installed my new short throw shifter last night!

All I can say is SWEET....

It did require some sanding of the little nylon nub that goes into the tranny, and some sanding of the nylon spacers that hold the shifter ball...

My 1st to 2nd gear throw is just under 3 inches now...

And my Rx-8 shift **** fit on and looks great....

I would post pics but it is the same height as stock....

I bought it off of some guy...

I will look at the instructions tonite and see if there is a name brand on it tonite.

It is a true 2 piece short throw not a cut down shifter. It is actually the same size as the normal shifter. But the ball is moved up 1 inch and that changes the lever action.

Does the short throw have a shorter shaft ? Does it make your shift boot pucker around your shift **** for a "turtle head" look ?

I'd like to have one, but I don't want the rattle or to have to circumsize my shift boot. Know what I mean ?

I've read about the rattle and am amazed that the suppliers say it will rattle on some cars and not others and they can't figure out exactly why ?

Do our rich exhaust fumes kill that many brain cells in the professionals that work around rotaries every day ?

The shaft size is the exact same.

It raises the fulcrum point of the shifter so a shorter throw produces more movement inside the transmission...

I used the stock boot with the Rx-8 **** and it looks like it belongs there...

No gap, No pucker, No rattle.......

Jorx was selling these shifters a while ago. I may have one for sale, I just need to get off my *** and take it out of a transmission that I have sitting around. They are a true short throw shifter.

I'm guessing the secret is that the short shifter used is for, from, or uses the thread pattern/size of a FC or a later model tranny. If I remember right the 81-88 trannies are the ones that the Rx-8 shifter doesn't just screw right onto.

The inside (threaded area) of the Real Rx-8 shifter not the knock offs are nylon.

The thread pattern is not perfect but the Rx-8 shifter does go on with out any issues and with out the use of any tools.

The picture shows......

I will try and get pics of the unit itself and a scan of the directions and maybe someone will recognize the brand....

The shift distance isn't my concern, I just wish my shifter itself was shorter. With my style, I'd probably tear something up if it was any closer.

I've been searching for a short throw for the RX-2 (SA gearbox) and came across this. Several other threads indicated that the SA and FB shift linkages are different, but your ebay seller states that it's for 79-85. Can anyone tell me if it's suitable for an SA trans?

BTW, the only shifter I see from ReSpeed is a B&M shifter for FD. Let me know if I've somehow missed it.

It's not the linkage persee that's different. It's the position, length and angle of the shifter itself. Afaik, no makes a short throw for any pre-81 tranny.

I think the shifter looks good too, but at the same time, I wouldn't like it saying that I had a six speed transmission so I would probably paint that section black or something to get rid of the numbers at the top of the shifter.

I would definitely like a shorter throw though.
