Short Shifter

Is this a good idea ? Who makes a good, geuine one that actually changes the stroke (not just cut the shifter down) ? Is it true that a certain % will rattle no matter what ?

I have been running the jorx81 one for about a year and a half. Works perfectly, no rattles. I also sent him, at the time, a couple of cores also, cannot remember the price but the tig welding was stellar!

I figured out a simple way to make short throws, but one has to sacrifice a shifter housing to make them. The one I made has a shorter throw than the others, yet it's the slightly taller.

I know I'm goin to get flamed for this, but there is more than 1 way to make a short shifter. You can lengthen the shaft below the pivot ball, which will make the throw shorter, but you can also shorten the shaft ABOVE the pivot. It seems everybody says this is just a false way to shorten the throw, but when you actually measure the throw of the shifter, no matter which way you do it, the throw is shorter. Its really quite simple to see why. See my attached crappy drawing. You have to shorten the shaft quite a bit to get a high amount of change, but in most cases just changing to a really short **** that mounts down low on the shaft produces a noticable difference.

Alright, let the flaming begin!

Y'know that makes sense. But, that would make the shifter really really low in the car, so you're pretty much digging your hand into the transmission tunnel. *L* But seriously, there's a fire extinguisher in case things get too out of control.

By the way, next time throw some color into that drawing of yours, so that it won't be as crappy.

You got the flaming right. There is a major difference between how the 2 different shifters work. A short throw shifter actually shortens shifting time, a short shifter simply makes the shifting harder.

The one I made is the same height, but total throw is less than 1/2 and shifts are much quicker.

Also, if you just shorten the shaft there, you have to move your hand further away from the wheel. I would actually love a taller shifter so it would be closer to the wheel.

Shorten the shifter, you can yell out, "Mad tite JDM Yo". Install a short throw shifter, you can actually have quicker shifts.

I may have to see about getting a short-throw from you, Prof. T. Could use one of those.

I'll need a sacrificial shifter housing from a junk tranny and a shifter. PM me for the 'other' details.

You know I can't give up my shifter 'til AFTER I install the new one. Can you round up some spares to get the ball rolling and PM me the price shipped to 31763 with the core to follow ?

Happy Holidays !
