Shift Points

Hey for the best fuel economy, where is the best point to shift gears In terms of RPMs ? Because i know too high is wasteful same with shifting too low. Also does downshifting when slowing cause an increase in gas consumption vs. just throwing it in neutral.

-Matt

Edit: this is a Stock 85 GSL with 12A

downshifting burns more gas than just granny braking, and i shift at about 2.5 to three with my 12A
but i have RB streetport headers, straight 2.5" exaust, etc. this may not be the case on a car with a kitty (more exaust backpressure)

but **** fuel economy, you bought an rx-7. now go get a bridgeport. Bridgeports get GREAAAAAAT economy.... yeah.

I shift between 3K and 3500. But then again mine isn't in the best running condition so it drinks gas faster then it should LOL

Peak RPM at 4000, no higher for optimum economy.

I shift at 4-5k, but then I can't drive the bp around town under 3k without surging and *******. Fuel milage, 13-14 around town. Hate to see what 8k will give me when I finally get the last 200 miles done on the breakin.

Even with a stock port its good for the car to run to 7,000 in second once its completely warm at least once each drive. OK, so its good for the driver then....

well when i was testing to see what mpg i was getting i was up to 22 before i stopped testing .. and i **** about 3.5k now after the warm up... it is suck gas time... make left hand turns at 6k in first and right before it id done ... shift to second and down to the floor.. dump the clutch at the same time and watch the rear end go around.

I am making a few easy mods to try to increase my fuel economy in my beater, I have already done the spark plugs, fuel filter etc, that took me from 19 to 21 mpg, today I did the 2GCDFIS mod, the basic ignition mod, its cheap and gives better power, economy and smoother running by reports I'll let you know how its worked.

Next is the Synthetic transmission and diff fluids, quality stock air filter, etc., Down the track is a purpose built economy 12a with custom intake and exhaust all built for endurance and economy, not a power car, I have a couple of other FBs for that....
