Why not keep the 12a, rebuild and port it, and put a turbo on it?

Because not everybody is as crazy as you coldy

Hell... If I blew my engine, unless I had a whack of cash I'd just do a TII swap. It's easier than a DIY 12a ported turbo! I know it's not as original or cool... but if I was rich, I'd go cool.

Cool: a multi-side-port 12a (12a rotor hosings and rotors, with the exhaust ports blocked, using Renesis side housings), supercharged.

THAT would be cool. Bloody expensive and it would leave some people saying "Why the hell would you wanna do that, the 13b-RE puts out more power than a 12a-RE-hybrid freak!" ... but it's unique, cool, and with a nice supercharger setup, it could kick ***.

As for the rebuild 12a/13b... I'd say only go 13b if you're gonna grab one with a turbo, otherwise you're better just porting a 12a and slapping it in. It's easier that way, and if you want turbo later, you can do a cool blowthrough setup like coldy has... 12a into a 12a engine bay isn't hard! And just porting it can give you some power.

on the contrary, my car has 6000 invested in it, including the car. Price breakdown:
350-car
150-RB springs
150-stainless steal breaklines
120-shocks
350-GSL rear end
150-engine
600-engine rebuild (gaskets, springs, apex seals)
0-porting (i had the tool and borrowed the templates)
240-TII tranny
100-TII lightweight flywheel
20-exceddy clutch (10% used, 90% still left)
700-turbo kit
1000-BRIDE racing seat, custom bracket
35-holley RED fuel pump (which was remanufactured, which isnt flowing properly, which i am buying a new one)
250- Alcohol injection
I'm sure theres more, thats only at 4200 dollars. Basically, you could get the turbo kit for around 1500 dollars, in the car, running, with an engine rebuild. It would EASILY be that much for a t2 swap. owell, something to think about.

6k, that's about twice what's into my blowthrough setup Using the nikki setup it cost me a total of $950 for a very basic setup. I sold the parts from that setup I didn't need to cover some of the cost of the weber setup. Now I've got a total of $3200 into my car, but it'll probably end up being closer to $3400 after I get all my new suspension on and aligned.

That wouldn't work. If you used renesis side housings and 12a rotor housings, you'd have 4side exhaust ports, 2pp exhaust ports, and 0 intake ports.

No, the intake ports on the Renisis are in the side housings as well.

The reason it wouldn't work is because you can't mix and match early housings with new ones because of the water seal groove location.

Just want to let you know that I wouldn't supercharge a rotary. They spin too fast. I saw a study somewhere that they like to turn into a grenade if the spin too fast. Just FYI. Besides, turbo's make more power, and don't take power to make power.
